Experiences of Harrogate please?

Harrogate is quite expensive, lived there for a long time and hated every minute, traffic a PITA and generally just didnt like it, town a nightmare to park etc etc.
Lived in Knaresborough for a long time and much preferred that, plus lots of nice places for walks and kids to play etc - I find Harrogate doesn't have much greenery (except the Stray)
So have moved out to the villages now, again not cheap but worth it. Lived between Boroughbridge and Ripon for a good while in rented and loved it, now out at Dishforth and commute easily to Wetherby/York and Leeds in no time at all.
Maybe look at renting somewhere until get used to the areas and go from there?
Granted the villages do not have train stations but bus routes are normally quite good to get you to town then jump on the train.
Wetherby again quite nice, Boston Spa, or there is Whixley and Green Hammerton, Little Ribston, Spofforth and similar areas however what you would get for your money really depends.
Good luck0
