PPI / Barclays 'Mystery' Payment!

I hope somebody can help me please.

Today I had a credit of £4.5k arrive in my Barclays current account, the reference was RTB PPI/Interest payment.

I was not expecting this as I have not asked Barclays for any PPI back (numerous other banks, but not Barclays!).

I called the bank and spoke to an advisor stating my concerns i.e that the money had been paid to me in error and the bank would take it back. She told me that it was definitely mine and looked at the account history. She said I had a Barclays loan in 2002 that had PPI attached to it and it was probably from that. I never wrote to Barclays about that loan as I didn't have the account details as it was so old. I told her that I hadn't had a letter about that money and she said not to worry I would probably get one soon. My parting comment was 'Oh, so I can go ahead and spend it then?' she laughed and said yes.

Obviously I am worried that things that are too good to be true, usually are! I have moved the money into my savings account so I don't spend it accidentally before they ask for it back!

My question is, has anybody had a PPI refund that they have not specifically asked for or complained about? Are Barclays refunding off there own back as good will gestures? Are they finally getting a conscience or is this REALLY too good to be true?

    What do you think????

Thanks for those who answered my post.

The answer came today in a letter from Barclays. In 2012 I asked Barclays to refund my overdraft protection fee as I felt it was unfairly added to my account. They upheld this complaint and refunded me £2900.

The letter today says they calculated it incorrectly and the additional money I received is additional interest that they owed me.

Thanks Barclays, I would never have known!:rotfl:
  • I have received £460 today for an error with interest on my old Barclays loan.Good old Barclays !!!

  • hi there redbooties, i have also received the same thing this morning for £1700! i did claim ppi back on my overdraft in 2012 and also wrote a letter to barclays about 6 months ago to try and claim back any reseve/overdraft charges but they wrote back rejecting my claim. so i also have no idea why they have paid this into my account.

hopefully i will get a letter explaining everything!

I rung them yesterday and at first they couldnt find who the payment was from but when then he said its from a ppi claim that had been ongoing since 2012, he said there is a letter on the way to explain it. I thought I had already been paid for the ppi claim as the gave me £1400 in May 2012.

    Hi,
In 2012 I received redress for mis sold PPI on my Barclays overdraft and then last month my account was credited a further £4508 as Barclays had conducted an additional review and found that they had made a mistake when calculating my first refund and had not taken into account any interest and fees charged on my overdraft due to PPI

My redress was calculated from 1999.

Barclays deducted income tax at current basic rate of 20% from the 8% statutory compensation payment.

    Hope this helps
  • My husband has had this as well. Checked bank account on Tuesday to see if wages had gone in and there was an additional 1400 in there. We made an original claim back in 2012 which was at first refused but then 6 months later money for a refund just appeared in the account with a letter following a few days later. Just waiting for another letter now to confirm this second payment truly is ours (keeping fingers crossed)!!

After seeing a few post on here I asked Barclays to double check the redress paid to me in 2011 for overdraft PPI.

Today I have found out they have credited £980 to one of my accounts yesterday that had PPI, and they are still making a decision on the other account that had it also, which if it is incorrect should be bigger.:j

    Hi redbooties,

Did you then actually receive the letter, as we had something similar happen, but 22 days later we still haven't received a letter.

The money went into our account, the next day my partner went into our local Barclays who told us that they couldn't see where it had come from. So I did a search on here and saw that quite a few people had had money deposited in their accounts, but had received a letter in a week or so to say it was their money from a PPI application that had been reconsidered and they could keep it, but 22 days later we're still no wiser and it's just getting annoying now, as we'd obviously like to spend it, but can't afford to do that if someone wants it back!

The actual wording on the account showed PPI & INTEREST REFUND GLOBAL ISD - GLO S

Has anyone else experienced this? Be grateful to hear from others on this. Thanks.

Have you phoned the Barclays PPI number? I think it's 0800 282 390.
They will have details on your file. That's how I found out what my payment was for

Can I ask when your complaint was first upheld? I know they are reviewing overdraft PPI from 2012 and have heard they are reviewing some loan refunds.
