PPI / Barclays 'Mystery' Payment!

I hope somebody can help me please.
Today I had a credit of £4.5k arrive in my Barclays current account, the reference was RTB PPI/Interest payment.
I was not expecting this as I have not asked Barclays for any PPI back (numerous other banks, but not Barclays!).
I called the bank and spoke to an advisor stating my concerns i.e that the money had been paid to me in error and the bank would take it back. She told me that it was definitely mine and looked at the account history. She said I had a Barclays loan in 2002 that had PPI attached to it and it was probably from that. I never wrote to Barclays about that loan as I didn't have the account details as it was so old. I told her that I hadn't had a letter about that money and she said not to worry I would probably get one soon. My parting comment was 'Oh, so I can go ahead and spend it then?' she laughed and said yes.
Obviously I am worried that things that are too good to be true, usually are! I have moved the money into my savings account so I don't spend it accidentally before they ask for it back!
My question is, has anybody had a PPI refund that they have not specifically asked for or complained about? Are Barclays refunding off there own back as good will gestures? Are they finally getting a conscience or is this REALLY too good to be true?
What do you think????

Yes it is a mystery as they dont just dish out free money! You are right to move it to a savings accounts, it may well be an error and will ask for it back.0

I think it's probably genuine, Barclays have been examining records of loans without receiving a complaint and refunding the ppi with interest, so enjoy your good fortune!0

Thanks for this.
Have you heard of anybody else this has happened to then?
How long should I wait before I can actually assume it's mine?0 -

Maybe legit. Barclays have been looking at old loan accounts and refunding interest paid.0
