Husband moving out

A quick question. My husband is moving out today. I will put in my claim for benefits tomorrow. Do I just need to provide my husbands new address or will they need more evidence?

Thanks

I'm not working (2 children under 2) so JSA, Child tax credits and council tax benefit. I've now started looking for work and so if I get a job then working tax credits.

Council tax department may require a forwarding address if you are joint liable before they award single person discount.

You do know, don't you, that you can claim Income Support as a single parent with a child under 5 years?

This wouldn't prevent your looking for a job but would mean that you would not have to adhere to a Job Seekers agreement.

Thanks Pmlindiloo, that's a good point about not then having to sign up for JSA and their agreements. My skills are quite specialist and I was worrying they would get me to just apply for random jobs. I'll go down the income support route instead.

I've never claimed benefits before so this is all new. Thanks for all your help.

We have a mortgage on a house, don't think I can claim anything to help? Would I check this with the council when I call them about council tax?

The DWP do support for mortgage interest. (SMI) To claim this, you need to be receiving income support or income based JSA or ESA.

  • OP, do you have the child benefit for the children if not then you will need to get it in your name for I.S ?

If you claimed tax credits before then they'll ask for your ex-partners address. They won't need any other info about him.

If you weren't already claiming then they don't need anything about your ex

I didnt have my ex husbands new address when he moved out, and i claimed tax credits. We had claimed as a couple before.
