Thanks Oblivion! The right clicking on the smiley doesn't work for me - already tried that.

Can't see the Switch Editor Mode icon - could you explain exactly where it is/what it looks like so I can give this a try?

    Thanks.

The Switch Editor Mode button is in the top right corner of the message composition window ... it doubles as a font size control and has a small A and a larger underlined A on it.

If you select this you should see all the formatting code and the smilies should be selectable. It looks a bit odd until you press the Submit Reply button.

Thanks. It's on the left-hand side for me, hence my confusion!

Nothing happens at all when I click on it. If I right click, I get the "save image as"/" copy image", etc. - none of which work for me :-(

Try going into advanced mode. I notice there are no smileys available as I type this, but in advanced they are there.<br>

    I am using firefox though.

Where do I find Advanced Mode - do you mean Advanced Settings in Chrome? If so, been there, done that and no difference.

Sorry MimiJane, thought you were talking about the MSE site, as that was the reason for the answer.
If I try to reply to you with your "quote". there are smileys available, but if I click on "QUICK REPLY" go advanced, then I get them

Thanks for the suggestions lovesgshp. The problem must be with Chrome I would have thought as I don't have a problem with smiley's in IE. What I find so strange is that they were there a few weeks ago in Chrome and have now gone!

Perhaps not, a few weeks can be a long time in terms of developers updating their software.
Anyway, I hope you get it sorted soon :)
