Childrens chat room style app

Hi, I have a 9 year old who had a Hudl for Christmas, and yesterday she got really stuffy when her brother wanted to watch what she was doing, so I got suspicious, took it off her to see what she was doing, and she was on this "Movie Star Planet" app. Its a bit like Sims by the looks but it has a chat facility, and when I saw the messages she was posting I was absolutely devastated. She's been messaging people saying "I need a man does anyone want me" and other general stuff like I need a boyfriend and where do you live etc. The whole thing is animated so you are an avatar as such. I cannot believe this thing bypassed our child safe controls, does anyone know how I can block things like this?
I've confiscated the tablet and this morning started looking through her history and all the other apps, her google history was innocent enough apart from one search of "willy images".I don't know what to make of this, she's young for her age, still plays with dolls etc so I didn't expect this from her yet :(
I clicked on it which brought up a page of those images! When all explicit content is supposed to be locked. I am ringing Talk Talk today about this but I'm concerned that there are going to be apps that can bypass these controls!

  • Hi my dd plays MSP and I hate it. She has been banned since she posted ' hi boys I'm single come and get me'!! She is 9. Her best friend got married on there! But I just get told I'm old.

Maybe instead of hiding away from all of this you should talk to her about it. She may be older than you think?
  • Maybe she is too young to have unsupervised access to the internet? I am not sure that I agree that it is Talk Talk's responsibility to keep images etc from your child. I would say that as the parent it is your job to keep your child safe from inappropriate material.

but OP has childlock on the internet access (I think that's what she/he is implying) - do you need to upload something onto the Hudl itself in order to block this kind of thing?
just in case you need to know:

Fairly certain childlock will apply to webpages accessed in a browser - not necessarily to apps. Why not just remove the apps and if she wants to download more she has to pass it to you to to enter the account password in order to download them?

Regarding the pictures coming up.. It might be something you have to enable in a browser. What browser does the hudl use? Maybe there is something you can configure there. Or an additional childsafe plugin/app you can download and configure yourself?

My 6 yo has a hudl, we removed regular search engines & installed the child friendly ones, I also set up a parental account which is password locked so that only I can pay for downloads & change access & controls. We also changed to child friendly youtube & his own google account for apps etc so he can access internet but certin things wont come up, he tried to download minecraft & it doesn't even show up in his goggleapps.

maybe do something like that but I would also suggest having a conversation with her about the dangers of the internet
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.
