isn't this the same scenario as the others regards the insurance ?

    In what sense?

That they try to sell you an 'upgraded' policy?
I just say no if I don't want it

They reserve an extra amount on your card?
Can't say I've ever noticed they do that but it wouldn't bother me anyway.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Still waiting to hear how much the insurance upgrade is ..... seems all this is exactly what I read on the forums

They often try to avoid telling you. They want the excess amount and the cost of the "Super CDW"/excess waiver insurance to be a surprise when you get there, and you're faced with either paying something like EUR100-200 to waive the excess or reserving EUR700 on your card.

When faced with this choice a lot of people resort to paying EUR200 rather than risk EUR700, even though logically this means they reckon there's over a 25% chance of them damaging the car in a week or two's driving!

Which is why excess insurance before you go at a reasonable price is always a better option than paying rip-off car hire rates. As well as which sometimes the excess insurance offered by the car hire companies, despite being an utter rip-off, often has exclusions like tyres, glass, underside etc. Whereas a decent third party one like insurance4carhire includes this sort of thing.

Surely it's irrelevant how much it is. It'll be very expensive for what it is. But it's not mandatory. Refuse it when you pick up the car.

(Arrange your own excess insurance before going for a few quid)
