Ooft SBO isn't it hilarious when folks judge others when they have no clue. Maybe if they took the time to read what you wrote i.e you have been refused planning permission to extend then their response would be less rude and tactless.

You obviously don't understand that the OP could have put in a Planning application before she purchased the house under the RTB scheme. Then if it was refused she didn't have to buy the property but could have swapped with another tenant who wants to downsize.

If my reply was rude then the OP , or you for that matter are free to report my posts. The fact that the thread is still active I suspect they have already decided its a valied topic for debate.

You are a lovely lady and you would have stayed where you are but your PERSONAL circumstances have changed these plans. At the top of each page on this site it states ' be nice to moneysavers' and it would do well for folks to remember that. If RTB posts rile some folks then don't read them................simple

MSE is a public Forum ( Google is your friend) and some Folks would do well to remember that too..
  • This is a forum for support and not judgement...the question was simple and if you can't respond with appropriate advice don't bother at all. SBO was not asking for a moral evaluation of her personal circumstances.

Oh for the love of God, go and Google what "Forum " means.

Just to save you the time a "Forum" is a place for debate . There are sections on the Forum specifically for "support" but this isn't one of them.

I see your the 3rd poster from the OP's previous threads on the debt free wannabee section who feels the need to come and post on the OP's behalf and I'm not sure why.

Please feel free to correct any of my posts that are factually incorrect and I will edit my posts.

Jacques Chirac posted a valied question so maybe you can ask SBO to pop back and answer it.

"Why doesn't she sell the house and pay back the Right to Buy discount she received when she purchased the house" rather than try and swap the mortgage to a Buy to let after having only bought the house less than a year ago?.
  • well that really is none of yours or anyone's business to be honest. Hopefully we never cross paths again :)
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
    Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
    Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
    By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00
  • HI thanks for the comments.

What my motivations are are my business. I was asking a question - whether its considered ethical or honest by other people it is what it is.

I am grateful to those of you who answered my question.

As a NB... I tried to purchase my house 6 years ago. This is when I found I was still on the mortgage of another house. (OK, i was naive as I haddnt checked the credit report but you live and you learn eh?) All the ducks were finally in a row last summer and it took 8 months to complete.

I am not sure I understand all the complications with having 2 houses, but there are only 2 options for you if you want to move:
    1. apply for COnsent to let from your current lender (it is not true that RTB rules prohibit renting the property out)
    2. Sell and repay the discount

Or maybe try to appeal against refusal of the planning permission for the extension?
  • Thanks thats very useful. I have permission to move and I am going to work to get my home into a rentable property. It was the plan but for a good few years down the line to move on, we have moved it up a little.
