RTB With Halifax When can I change to BTL?

There are literally hundreds of people using RTB to get their hands on their Council houses cheap with a view to immediately moving-out & renting the property to make an income.
As for claiming SBO had illegally obtained a Council house when she was already a part-owner of a mortgaged property is wrong. She was divorced. She had the joint ownership but would not have rights to live there, so the Council will have given her a house based on that fact.Never Knowingly Understood.

I am not playing a victim. I believed for years I had been bought out of that house, it was only when I went to purchase the council house that everything came out.
The courts stated I should have the house, but I had since remarried and was expecting.
My husband bought the house. I was awarded the rights to purchase but was on maternity leave.
I am not a victim nor am I playing one! I am where I am but I have not committed fraud nor have I done anything out of turn. I am only wanting to change the mortgage because I am being scuppered in an attempt to do an extension! Its not fair to character assassinate based on a couple of facts.Trying to shift that debt!0 -
So much for mutual support, its a bit one upmanship isnt it?
I survived and have come through the other side. I have worked bloody hard, I have a lot of professional qualifications.
I didnt own another house. Ive explained all that.
This is a horrible way to go on at people who ask for help.
As for knowing you had been bought out of a house or not... I didnt know. I wasnt in a position to question anything, I was doing my masters and working 2 jobs. I had no need to confirm what I had been told, it was a court order, and I mistakenly thought my ex would comply.
Also yes I had a couple of dogs, but have only recently acquired a large husband.
I just asked for some help, not to be judged on what you perceive is wrong. Ive committed no fraud and have always been honest of my circumstances.
I think perhaps this has hit a nerve with you. I am sorry that is the case.Trying to shift that debt!0 -

So why by the RTB Council house cheap when you knew at the time it wasn't big enough for you other than for profit.
Here we are less than a year after buying it cheap you want to rent the property out........ Excuses like "I was studying etc" for not knowing you hadn't been bought out of the existing property you owned 50% of is quite frankly laughable.
Trying to justify buying your Council house cheap by saying "I work hard and have few holidays and have a old car" which you seem to think is justifcation for buying a Council house with a discount whilst already having a share in another home which you conveniently forgot to check that you had been bought out of by your ex.
If you think thats honest and moral then good for you.
You "worked" the system and took advantage and that is far from honest. You may well not have acted fraudulently but morally you are corrupt otherwise you wouldn't have bought the Council house on the RBT scheme knowing it was too small for you and would have bought a house on the open market.
Which would have left the Council house free for a family in need.Instead you bought it for a song and 12 months on what to rent it out to a tenant.
Regarding "touching a nerve with me" then yes it has but every Council house RTB thread does.
I would rather see Council housing for those in genuine need and not sold off cheap for chancers to sell on soon after for a huge profit .... That gives no benefit to Society or the taxpayer.
Sorry but theres no sugar coating, fluffy replies from me .I haven't been rude and posting vitriol so feel free to complain to the mods if my posts have hurt your feelings.
I have posted an opinion and I might add this is a "Forum" .0 -
It's a shame especially in London where £300,000 RTB flats are valued at £200,000 and then sold with up to 70% discount. And after a year sold for £330,000 so even after repaying part of the discount still a healthy profit and then each of the children criticize the council for having long waiting lists etc. People who work and not receiving any benefits can't afford the sort of homes people get on rtb. The govt sld help people without homes get accommodation but what is the sense in bending over backwards to get them a mortgage??0

As someone else has said, the issue you will encounter is that you cannot let your RTB property out during the 5-year (?) period. That's to do with the RTB rules and not the mortgage rules.0

Thanks for all your comments. I appreciate your thoughts - thanks to those who responded to my question.Trying to shift that debt!0

Ooft SBO isn't it hilarious when folks judge others when they have no clue. Maybe if they took the time to read what you wrote i.e you have been refused planning permission to extend then their response would be less rude and tactless. You are a lovely lady and you would have stayed where you are but your PERSONAL circumstances have changed these plans. At the top of each page on this site it states ' be nice to moneysavers' and it would do well for folks to remember that. If RTB posts rile some folks then don't read them................simple5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
I don't understand why, if you are so desperate to move, selling the house and repaying the discount would be a problem to you? Then you have the power to do as you wish.0

I think you have the answer in your question Jacques.... The OP sees the Right To Buy property as a long term investment (Rent out ASAP) rather than a home.. Clearly stated in one of her posts.0
