I recently upgraded my TV to a full HD Smart TV:D. I have used the HDMI cable I already had, which is only a cheap one and I have had it for quite some time.
I was wondering if there was anything to be gained from getting a new cable and whether it is likely to improve my picture at all. I am a novice where these things are concerned but would like to do whatever I can to improve the picture if I can. I don't want to spend a fortune though, Currys tried to sell me a cable at a discount when I got the TV and still wanted about £40 for the cable:eek:
So is there an benefit from these expensive cables and are the gold plated ones better? What recommendations can you guys give me?

not really.
I dont tend to buy the cheapest but only spend a few quid on HDMI cables,no more0 -
HDMI cables either work or don't (unlike SCART where there were indeed big differences in picture quality). Some might be better in term of build quality - as in not physically fall to bits but other than that, no difference. I have a stack of Amazon Basics HDMI cables, pretty much any will do.Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

I've always used ones from the bargain shops, or less than £5 on amazon.
The signal is digital, so is either there or not. The only way you would see any benefit of an expensive cable if you needed one that was really long! but for normal use the cheap ones are just as good as any others.0 -
Take a look at this previous thread:
£1 HDMI cables at Poundland0 -
Thanks for the info guys, like I said I don't know anything about them but I did think that there couldn't be that much difference that it warranted over £40.
I think I will spend a few quid on a new one, maybe up to £3. I could do with another one for when I connect my laptop to the TV to watch football. Whoops, I don't think your supposed to that are you:rotfl:. Oh well it beats giving Sky £20 a month:D
I'm not sure I've seen them in our Poundland but I'll have to have a closer look.0 -
I bought one from Amazon for £3.49 recently, I would probably have gone for a Pound shop one but I expect the 100 mile round trip to the nearest one would have eaten up the saving.0

Amazon basics for me. Really well made too.0

Bear in mind there are different "versions"; I believe 1.4a is still the latest which supports 3D Blu Ray (where-as earlier versions don't) - although you still should only find yourself spending a few quid on them!0

All the from poundland are 1.3, most of the cheap will be the same or dont carry the hdmi logo. But still work just as well as the 1.3 compliant monster cables.
The poundland ones are sometimes belkin.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
