My biggest fear is that our old boiler packs up. Husband is on CB JSA and a small private pension.

I have applied for a few things based on our low income, help with health costs, Council Tax reduction and Warm House Discount, but weren't eligible for a free boiler.
I'd be happy with the Robin Reliant version if our boiler packs up in the middle of winter.

I certainly wouldn't and more to the point, I would not have let the boiler get into that state that it gave up completely in the first place

as long as you receive your entitlement, then your quite happy for other people to go without purely because they didnt know they were entitled?

why not hand some of yours bac?
    no?
    thought not

Just pointing out the facts - all 12.25 billion of them annually

Your suggestion would lead to an increase in tax for those that are working. I doubt that they would be too impressed with your suggestion.

That's like comparing a Reliant Robin to a Ford Focus
Both are vehicles that you can go out in, one tips over every time you put it into a sharp bend, the other has a renowned reputation for quality and longevity.

Don't British Gas do good discounts on decent boilers that you can also pay for over a period of time?

We are entitled to a new boiler - it is over 10 years old, not an A rated one and we receive a means tested benefit (Guaranteed Pension Credit).
Had the guy come down to assess everything and he agreed that we qualified. When I asked him what he intended to fit I said two words and showed him the way out!

Thanks - that's the intention hence why my plumber will be on site to ask the relevant questions.

    Potterton - NOoooo way!!!

If that is all they will fit, then I'll keep what I have.

It's like comparing a well serviced but oldish Aston Martin with the bottom of the range new KIA.

If I remember rightly Potterton were slated on Watchdog because of their boilers in refusing to accept that they had built in failure problems. Eventually they all had to be attended to under a nationwide recall.

How is yours by comparison to the Worcester?

I received a letter from BG yesterday saying that they are going to do an assessment on the 23rd September for a new gas boiler.

That bit I'm not too concerned about, what I will be interested in is what new boiler they would suggest I have. I will arrange for my plumber friend to be here on the 23rd as I have no intention of being 'sold' a cheap bottom end product. I know what I want and have a range of boilers that I will accept.
My boiler is just over 10 years old, serviced every year and in very good condition. It has an extremely high BTU output for the size of the property. Anything of less quality or output will not be acceptable.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

And if everyone in this country took up your advice who is going to foot the bill?

Three years ago the government publicly announced that they were aware of £12.25bn of unclaimed benefits every year being handed back to the Treasury to be spent on other things instead. Since then I would imagine that things can only have got worse. Additionally, that figure represents only those that the government know about and would not include those that they don't.

So if the government had to hand over another £12.25bn on top of the £159bn that they currently spend on benefits, don't you think that someone somewhere is going to have to pay for it?

How ironic is this post based on your trolling, sorry previous posts.

I know what you mean! We are considering the new high sensitive electric radiators that are available and wonder in the long run, particularly if you have a small bore gas system it might be less maintenance? You have to have the boiler last a long time (and the new ones don't last as long as they did) to make it pay.
