Free boiler for income based benefits only?!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I'm doing something wrong!
My very old decrepit boiler packed up recently, and after advisement from Occupational Health, have been trying to find a free boiler replacement scheme. The problem is that I am on Disability Living Allowance, and I keep being told that I need to be on job seekers allowance to qualify?
Does anyone know if there is a way round this, or even (hopefully) if this is incorrect? It seems a little crazy that they will dish out a free boiler to someone because they don't have a job, but someone unable to work through disability misses out?!
Thanks in advance for any replies:)

the qualifier is a means tested benefit ... not just jobseekers.
do you receive any other benefits?
esa
housing benefit
council tax support0 -

The scheme is a load of rubbish.
They fit cheap end boilers, charge a fortune for 'extras' yet bill the government for the cost of supplying and fitting the most expensive boiler that you can buy.0 -
DLA isn't a means tested benefit. You may get the help if you're on income asbed ESA or the benefits nannytone mentions above.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

That's like comparing a Reliant Robin to a Ford Focus
Both are vehicles that you can go out in, one tips over every time you put it into a sharp bend, the other has a renowned reputation for quality and longevity.
Don't British Gas do good discounts on decent boilers that you can also pay for over a period of time?
We are entitled to a new boiler - it is over 10 years old, not an A rated one and we receive a means tested benefit (Guaranteed Pension Credit).
Had the guy come down to assess everything and he agreed that we qualified. When I asked him what he intended to fit I said two words and showed him the way out!0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
I only claim DLA - maybe I should start claiming more!

try a different comparison...
either a robin relaint or NOTHING.
i think most would accept the robin reliant.
the people that used to live next door to my parents had one for years. without it, the wife would have been housebound.
people who are on an extremely low income with no savings may want a ford focuss... but if someone is offering them a free robin reliant, theyd be foolish to turn it down0 -
And if everyone in this country took up your advice who is going to foot the bill?
Three years ago the government publicly announced that they were aware of £12.25bn of unclaimed benefits every year being handed back to the Treasury to be spent on other things instead. Since then I would imagine that things can only have got worse. Additionally, that figure represents only those that the government know about and would not include those that they don't.
So if the government had to hand over another £12.25bn on top of the £159bn that they currently spend on benefits, don't you think that someone somewhere is going to have to pay for it?0 -

Nope, I am quite happy with the comparison I made.
I don't know where you live, but I haven't see one for years. As for someone accepting one as a gift - I don't know anyone that would consider such a daft proposal.
If someone has mobility difficulties they would be able to claim DLA and possibly get a motability car.
Low income, if they are on that low an income, they wouldn't be able to run any car.0 -
as long as you receive your entitlement, then your quite happy for other people to go without purely because they didnt know they were entitled?
why not hand some of yours bac?
no?
thought not0
