What does 'Out of memory mean'?

    Ok then - 0.99GB of RAM and Windows XP, Home Edition...i'm impressing myself...
    But have to confess i can't find the blumin task manager...

    EDIT: can't find the commit things...

    Here is a simplistic explanation of your "memory" problem.

    Your 0.99GB RAM is your actual memory (1GB) on your PC. This is just about adequate for Windows XP, but more would be better.

    Virtual Memory is used to provide additional memory for the PC.

    Memory is where programs (applications) are loaded into from the hard drive, in order for them to run. Virtual memory is actually a reserved area on your hard drive that programs can be loaded into as well as the RAM (Randon Access Memory - physical memory chips on the pc). The virtual memory is slower than the actual (RAM) memory.

    You are getting the error messages because you are running out of memory space to run your program(s).

    ctrl alt del, task manager, performance

    post a hijackthis log, step 1 of the speedup sticky

    Well thankyou very much that is very helpful, i will now try and dazzle my husband with my knowledge when he comes home at the weekend....
    It's basically telling me to have a spring clean!:)
