''The great O2 ripof !!!!f''

How's about this for a 'Rip-off' !!!!!

I received a new 'phone at Xmas 2013. Whilst trying to set it up a few days later, I, inadvertently, pressed the 'directory' key on 2 separate days. I noticed that a call was being made on both occasions and ended them after a few seconds.

Unbeknown to me at the time, the calls had been made to 118500, the BT directory.

I pay monthly on the o2 Simplicity account which allows me 300
minutes and unlimited texts.

When I received my bill for the Dec 2013/Jan 2014, I found that
I had been charged the sum of 8 pounds 33 pence for voice calls'

On checking, imagine my utter surprise and disgust when I ascertained that I had been charged 4 pounds 16.7p for FIVE SECONDS on 27/12 and 4 pounds 16.7p for SEVEN SECONDS on 28/12 - both to 118500.

I contacted BT and was told to contact o2. which I did.

I was told by a member of staff that o2 CHARGE THAT AMOUNT
WHEN CALLS ARE KNOWINGLY OR UNKNOWINGLY MADE TO
118500, but, as a gesture of goodwill, they would reimburse me the costs of those calls (good customer service you would say) - But I was then warned me that this was 'a one-off' reimbursement!!!!!

I was told that o2 operate a directories service - calls charged at 1 pound per minute !!!!!

Needless to say, I will be extremely careful in future to avoid any directory enquiry, either knowingly or unknowingly, via my mobile, in
future !!!!!!!!!

Why not delete it from your phones contact list altogether? Pretty pointless having a directory enquiry service IMO when you can just 'google' numbers yourself.

whilst the costs are totally silly, you made the calls, so you have to pay!

    I think you're lucky o2 refunded you :)

I think it's other O2 customers being ripped off here - why should they subsidise your phone calls?
  • It's not just O2 - the other providers also charge big time if you don't use their own directory enquiries service. For example Tesco's own service costs £1.50 a minute but use anyone else's service on Tesco Mobile and it rises to £5.00 a minute.
Orange charge £1.29 for up to three numbers so their price seems to be the best, if you're on that network that is!
