Returned to my parked car to find that some delightful soul has crashed into it breaking the bumper and headlight trim and drove off without leaving any details. A quick google reveals the bumber to be £405 to replace and the trim £30, plus a respray to match the car and fitting. Can't see much change from £650. The car is 12 years old and a bit rough round the edges so I can't see much point in going through the insurance and paying the excess either.
I guess I'll just have to clean it up and try and glue it back together as best as I can.
As well as the offender, I can't believe that nobody else saw what happened and left me the details. This was in a busy high street in a small market town and it must have made quite a noise when they hit it. Unfortunately there is no CCTV in the town so not much point in reporting it to the police either.

We got replacement doors for our car from ebay. £100.
Forgot to say, they were a colour match. (Husband had damaged the originals):heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
what make/model of car do you have?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Short term temp fix include drilling the end of each crack to stop the crack propogating, and using tie wraps through a series of drilled holes to 'lace' the thing into the right shape, followed by joining the one make forum, and finding that the world is full of bumpers in the wrong colour that are being sold for peanuts, by other members.0

Is it worth a trip to the scrappies to see if you can get bits cheaper? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Hi all and thanks for your comments. Its a Land Rover Discovery 2. The colour is Icelandic Blue, which is quite rare as it was a limited edition, so I suspect it will be almost impossible to get a used part. It might not even be possible to get the correct paint colour to spray. I think I might be able to 'click' the cracked bits back together and with judicious use of some sort of glue, leave a fairly invisible repair. I think I'll leave it till its finer though, as there is so much mud around that the thing is plastered with it.
If the cracks looks like they won't click back together, then I'll look into the cable tie repair to prevent it getting any worse.
Thanks again.

I saw something similar happen in a Tesco car park. A bloke in a van hit a parked car, quite hard. It was early on a Saturday morning, I'd already done my shopping and was loading the car. The bloke in the van got out and looked to see if there was any damage then looked up to see if anyone was watching (he didn't see me as I was behind the trolley park), then got in his van and moved to another area of the car park. While he was looking for damage I wrote his number down. Then when he'd gone into the shop I left a note on the other cars windscreen, with his reg number on and my mobile number. I don't know if he did any damage or not but I didn't hear any more about it, so maybe not. Not a very nice thing to do though, just driving off.

Saw something on the news the other night where a big vehicle actually ran over the roofs of two vehicles in a car park. You can see it on you tube the title is "SUV runs over two cars in a parking lot". He drove off too.0

I and several other people, (including the driver who was sitting in the car at the time), saw a car attempting to park (parallel in the high street) scrape the rear of the car in front. The offended driver got out, looked and asked for his insurance details. The offending driver said there was nothing there and he didn't hit the car. We saw it move! He refused to give his details and after much swearing walked off, yelling 'you can't prove anything!!' over his shoulder.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

My daughter had the same she had parked her car in a hospital car park visiting me when I had a stroke and a car used hers as bumper car and hit it driving forwards and back to park, she was lucky unbeknown to the man my partner was sat behind him in his car and saw everything and challenged him. Otherwise I think he would of driven off!!!!!!!!!!0
