Obligation to buy car parts

if I agree to book a date in a garage for my service but then I find I don't need a service am I obliged to have it serviced because I agree'd to have it done with them? NO.
YES. Yes you are.
By not taking your car in you will be liable for damages!
Do you think if I book a flight then not show up and they resell the seat that's problem solved ? No!
Do you think if I order a custom sized framed picture from an art gallery and I don't collect I'm not liable to pay? No!
Do you think I can book a plumber then turn him away at the door on the day due and that's okay? No!
Ops agreed a service and liable for that service.
So ops breaching this agreement and liable for damages... Which is likely a restocking fee and delivery charges!0 -
if the OP has paid the man for his work that's he's completed, then OP is not obligated to do anything else. even if a part is on order. garages loss for poor business practice,if the OP paid for it OP loses £70 not going back to have it fitted.
Actually I'd say this was good service. Ops had the car made usable whilst a new part is ordered and in good faith not taken any form of payment upfront.
The fact ops now decided, despite the agreed part being ordered, he's happy with a lessor quality fix and doesn't want to continue with the agreement and doesn't want to cover the garages losses is what is shoddy!!0 -
But the garage will make no losses - they will be able to return the part for no loss.
If there is then thats all the op needs to pay for.
Me - I'd be inclined to find the same part cheaper elsewhere and argue the cost too.
But in the end, its only a problem if the OP want to be able to return to that garage - as most likely not then the OP can just forget it.0 -

Quite simple, we don't know that. We don't know their arrangements for returning bits with their suppliers. And it's not uncommon for restocking fees in B2B transactions.
Hard to argue the cost after agreeing a price - whether their price is competitive or not isn't really relevant.
It's also a problem if the garage pursue it - which is tbh unlikely. But that's not what op asked.
If op doesn't want to pay (or at least offer some sort of recompense) then fine, but let's not mask it as anything other than shoddy.0 -
If it was a general diesel return pipe, it would have came off a roll. As it had to be ordered it will be a shaped, engine specific part that is unlikely to be anything other than dealer only. Have never came across a dealer part that incurred less than 20% handling fee if it was returned unused, in all of its packaging, and hadn't been the wrong part supplied.0
-
Get them to fit the new pipe, keep the old one at the back of your shed, and in 20 years time, look at it and wonder what it came off.0
-
To be blunt £70 for what I assume is an injection return pipe is taking the p**s, unless it is a very exotic engine. I have fixed that on my engine, I didn't even spend a £5 on the parts.0
-
I used to get diesel leak of pipe for £2 a metre. sometimes they can be annoying to fit if injectors are awkward to get to, but nowhere near £70 worth of work or parts.
if its a moulded or formed pipe from a main dealer, it can still be taken back or the garage can just call the dealer and say they dont need it anymore.0 -
I work at a main dealer, all this BS being spouted by people on here makes me laugh.
If we have fifteen cars booked in for services on any given day, usually at least four don't turn up. They don't call, they don't get charged for not turning up, simply nothing happens
Parts ordered will be either used on another vehicle or returned to the supplier. There's a couple of parts that we would need to take payment for first but very few, certainly not a hose0
