  • Thanks stressed.mum I have just ordered 3 tins and really like the idea that you can't just dip into the tins to 'borrow' money from time to time. I have got some piggy banks but they are easy to open so I want to resist all temptation to get to the money. Once I get the tins, I will get coin sorting!

Currently using a large chocolate jar, the type you get around Xmas. Weve placed a small tin on top of the change. This stops the hand from popping in and taking the odd coin. To remove the small tin you have to pick up the whole jar and turn it upside down. Its worked so far....

Love the idea of the tins - last year I got Mr EL one from the £1 store, it had Winnie the Pooh on it but I printed up his dream camcorder onto white paper and wrapped the tin with it. So when we finally bought the camcorder, on a 0% card for stoozing, he started to pop money into the tin.

However as we're on hols soon, he may well use the cash in the tin for that... and as I've persuaded him to save £200 a month into his ISA for a while now, he has enough to pay for the camcorder anyway... result! Plus he is, as I type, reading the latest issue of MoneyWise, so my influence has been beneficial!
