I believe Netflix uses continuous payments, not direct debits! I.E you can cancel at anytime without charge and instantly on their website, and I don't believe subscriptions show up as direct debits on your bank account.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Is she on Facebook? You can sign up to netflix via Facebook which creates the weird scenario where you have a netflix account and pay but you don't have a netflix login. You have to login via Facebook. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Even if it is a Continuous Payment Authority, that can be cancelled by contacting the card issuer.
Also, the Payment Services Regulation 61 says:Payment service provider’s liability for unauthorised payment transactions
61. Subject to regulations 59 and 60, where an executed payment transaction was not authorised in accordance with regulation 55, the payment service provider must immediately—
(a)refund the amount of the unauthorised payment transaction to the payer; and
(b)where applicable, restore the debited payment account to the state it would have been in had the unauthorised payment transaction not taken place.0 -
Thanks for that - There was a case I remember a year ago where someone on MSE was getting charged monthly for some gift card service they didn't used. The bank told them they couldn't stop payments from their service and the only way was to change account details!!!!
Good to know the bank was talking rubbish. *sigh*Thanks for your help!

Funny, a similar thing happened to my dad last year. Clearly somebody had set up a Netflix account using my Dad's email address and so he started getting emails regarding payment etc, even though it wasn't his credit card details stored on the account - the account details pointed to someone in the US. Simple solution, I clicked on the "forget your password" link and got them to email a new password, we then logged in and cancelled this persons account for them. No more emails or demands for payment.0

You may need to be firm with your bank. Some banks have been very slow in communicating this to their staff.0
