Hi! I saw a link on another thread for a new car broker firm called Drive The Deal.

It seems people on here have used them so I guess they are genuine?

I have "built" the car I would be interested in and it has give a £2,000 ish discount. It is for a VW Polo but I would have to take out the VW Options finance.

Drive The Deal ask for a £500 deposit. Now is this deposit towards the car or is this a price you pay for Drive The Deal to take on the brokerage for you? Their fee for getting you the deal as it further mentions a dealer would call to collect a deposit.

Also with regards to VW Options there is an older thread on here that suggests that people take out this scheme to get a deposit contribution plus extras. The Polo under this scheme has a £1,000 contribution and 1 years free insurance.

On the thread people said they went down this route and then paid off and settled the agreement but were still able to keep the incentives. Does anyone know if this loophole is still open or have VW got wise and now slap on termination fees or something?

Ultimately I would be a cash buyer but VW will offer nothing in the way of a "deal" which I am surprised at. Even a dealership told me that Options was the better deal?!?

Without going to check I'm pretty certain the DtD site makes it clear that the £500 is a deposit that goes towards the car purchase.

It certainly said that very clearly last time I looked at it although that was some weeks ago.

I checked again. http://www.drivethedeal.com/faqs.asp makes it clear.

Cheers! Have you used them before?

I am of the thought that if it seems too good to be true then it must be.

I have priced a Polo with extras on and it comes out at just over £12 compared to over £14k RRP.

I have seen used Polos with the same spec selling for the same price quoted to me on DtD ??!!!??

    Surely this is a catch?

Drive the deal will just put you in touch with the dealer and then you and the dealer will sort out the rest. The dealer will pay drive the deal but I suspect the £500 deposit will roughly match their commission.

If I were you I would go to your local dealer armed with your quote and see what they will do and for goodwill I would cut them a couple of hundred pounds slack to give them the business.

I bought a Polo via drive the deal in January, and have just settled the finance this morning.

I had never bought a car before so didn't know what to expect from either a local dealer/internet at all, but the process was totally painless with no problems and the car turned up fine. The only dealer I could find that would go near the quote was further away than the drive the deal one - but I did try locally first.

The £500 is taken off the price of the car, you can pay this by CC. The dealer pays drive the deal a brokerage fee. The quote on Drive the Deal includes the 1k incentive from the finance (I think you mean solutions?) so if you're going to pay cash (which you can) you need to add it to the quote.

The dealer worked out my finance quote so it would actually still be cheaper over the whole term than paying cash, plus you get discounted servicing for 3 years so that's another £100 saved. I did get a settlement quote to save a bit more and when I phoned this morning VW finance said I still keep the discounted servicing and the deposit contribution so I've just paid it off. Obviously time will tell if I've been given the correct info.

Good luck with your new car!
  • Just before you buy a brand new polo, there is a updated version coming out in 2014 (I believe): (Can't post a link but google brings it up easily)

Something to consider before shelling out £12,000 on a new car for an updated one to be in the show room when you pick it up!

One more note: I own a Polo 1.4 and would recommend going for the 1.4 engine, not the standard 1.2 3 cylinder.
  • That's a good point by golemsmate - if you hang on the facelifted version is out this year, apparently they'll start taking orders in the UK from April for delivery in late July.

You can find some pictures (unofficial) from here: http://www.uk-polos.net/ under the new new polo section (Thread title: new 6r spotted).

The outside looks pretty similar (to me!) but the interior is apparently better quality, plus you get a better radio as standard.

I also much preferred the 1.4 over the entry level 1.2 60/70 PS, so that's what I have, but apparently the 1.2 TSI is ok (I don't have a clue, didn't test drive, no nothing about cars) so might be worth looking at?
  • Thank you for posting the link El Capitan, the forum classes me as a new user and wouldn't let me.

Personally, I would have loved the TSI version but it was another £3,000 on top of a stretched budget. If the OP was looking at brand new cars, he could probably pick up a 1 or 2 year old TSI for roughly the same money.
  • Thanks! I think I would wait for the updated Polo.

I wonder if VW would still provide the £1000 deposit contribution though on the updated model?

Just bought a new Polo 1.2 60 bhp to commute to work and delighted with it. It's a match edition and they gave me a brilliant deal against a clapped out Citroen C3! Currently doing 60 mpg and goes fine around town, I was always told the last edition of a car is the best built as all the faults have been ironed out.
