Contract coming to end, what to do next?

Basically my contract is coming to the end in April, but if I stay with 3 I can upgrade earlier.

The phone I want is £34 a month with £49 up front cost, but I have seen it cheaper elsewhere, how easy are 3 to barter with?

I really want to get rid of my S2 as soon as I can!
The Fields are Green, The sky is blue, the River Nene goes winding through, The market square is Cobblestoned, It shakes the old dears to their bones, A finer town you'll never see, A finer town they'll never be, Big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be!

If it is S4, wait until contract end.
There are rumours S5 releasing end of the month, and thus S4 should be cheaper in march/ april.

It is always better to buy phone (unlocked or wanted network) and use Giffgaff or Ovivo or 3's One Month Plans or other SIM only contracts + cashbacks.
  • Bartering can work but usually networks have zero interest in keeping existing customers for some reason so is often fruitless.

Look elsewhere and port your number across, very easy. Or like some others said wait for the S5, rumoured to be revealed at an event this month in Barcelona.

You minimum term is coming to an end not the contract.

Have you considered buying the phone Sim Free and getting a SIM only deal?

Assuming it's a 24 month deal, Expansys sell the S4 for £400, and a Three Sim only starts at £13, but for 600 mins/5000 texts/1gb of data your looking at £12.90 a month on a 1 month notice contract to £9.90 if you sign up for a year.
Overall that makes it £310 or £240 for airtime. Total cost over the two years is £710 or £640. "worst" case is the One Plan on a 1 month notice at £23 that comes in at £952 over the two years.

Taking the contract ties you up for 2 years and costs £865 overall what allowances do you have to do a better comparison.
