Birth Certificate....

I am trying and failing to get hold of a copy of my birth certificate. I have dual nationality and I just don't know where to start.

I've tried online through the gov website and all they did was refund my money- I haven't had a chance to call to ask why, I work in an open office and It's not a conversation I want everyone to overhear.

I've searched for myself on Ancestry.co.uk and I can't find myself.

Can anyone point me in the direction of who I can talk to?

Ring the register office that covers the area you were born in.

That's in Canada - I have no idea if it works differently there. Worth a try though.

If you were born in Canada, that's where your birth certificate will be.

If you do a Google Search, it'll give links for websites to tell you how to get a copy

Do you know what province you were born in? I was born in Canada as well (Alberta)- it's pretty easy to get copies of your birth certificate by contacting a registry office.

Other provinces will have a similar system in place.

Only by asking someone who was around at the time or getting hold of your old medical records. It won't say the hospital name on the birth certificate - but it does say the town/city of birth and unless you were born in one of the larger cities it's likely there was only one hospital in the area.

thanks - looks like I can't get it as I don't know any Canadian Citizen to be my guarantor.
  • There are sometimes ways to get around the need for a guarantor - when I did my first passport application from abroad but didn't have a guarantor the Consul General assisted me. It would be worth getting in touch with the Canadian High Commission to see if they can help.
