Maybe Unlimited BT Infinity 1+2 fibre Definately NOT Unrestricted

Options
A word of warning although BT advertise their Fibre packages as a "Totally Unlimited Package" they are not "Unrestricted". I thought I had bandwidth issues after having my Fibre line installed a number of weeks back. I was getting no where near the Download speeds that I would have expected from a Fibre line.

I then realised at a later date that although I have the "Totally unlimited" Infinity Fibre 1 package. BT still have a traffic management policy in place which to me seems a little misleading to say the least.:naughty:

Here is a copy of the email I received for a very helpful BT care rep managing my case.

Your contract for Infinity while it is an Unlimited usage package, it is not completely restriction free in the form of peer to peer traffic. There is a totally unlimited package available, but this is more expensive than your current deal but it is completely restriction free.

At the moment, at peak times and when the network deems necessary, BT will put a traffic management process in place which will restrict some types of usage, this includes peer to peer traffic which is heavy on the network.

So for anyone using Peer to Peer sites, like torrents, newsgroups etc... beware.

I think this should be added as sticky within the MSE forum for the benefit of others planning to switch providers.

Thanks

Its not just infinity. BT do this on all broadband (and i wouldnt believe what they told you about paying more for unrestricted either). I used to be with talktalk business then switched to BT. I used to use a lot of p2p but now cant use it at all. Its not just p2p either.

Doesn't protocol encryption on torrents stop this kind of traffic management?
    It used to anyway.
