Credit card payment not applied to account

You worked in banking - how did you not know about the surplus - paper statements and/or online would have shown this. You did not respond and confirm whether they ''just'' sent the money to you or whether you requested it.
For someone who worked in banking £2700 is a hell of an exchange fluctuation!
The cheque was too old to bank - as someone who worked in banking must have known this.
Sending it on a collection basis does not happen these days if ever it did - the nearest thing available is the sending the cheque direct - but as it was out of date it would have been returned unpaid.
You have a receipt which is a good thing the only hope you have is to get another cheque for the same amount - no compensation as none is due.0 -
Cheques are valid for 6 years - some banks request them to be reissued if older than 6 months, I used to work for my current bank and they did accept cheques up to 6 years old then. I didn't request the refund as I did know I was in credit. We send cheques on collection weekly in my branch. I'm still unsure where the surplus came from, I got a large loan so exchange rate would have a fair effect. I know on an old bank account I had a random refund and the account was in credit and the balance was sent to me, that bank was closing down it's banking operations so maybe that's why. I don't look at online for credit card and normally don't review statements unless I suspect something different, which I didn't with this. I pay everything by direct debit so don't pay attention to post.
The issue Tesco now have is that they have moved from RBS so it's difficult to track down old outstanding entries.0 -
You must be loaded to not cash a cheque for 2700 pounds at the time.
You are responsible for cashing any cheque sent to you not the cc company. Surely it was not beyond you to check your accounts regularly to see you had a surplus? Especially if you worked in banking.0 -
To say you work in banking, your post doesn't seem to make much sense.
You didn't request the cheque as you knew you were in credit ?
You're unsure where the credit came from but you got a large loan to repay a balance which you checked before making a payment ?
What does the old bank account and the random refund have to do with the cheque ?
If you paid off the credit card with the consolidation loan, how on earth could you end up £2750 in credit due to the exchange rate ?
None of it makes sense.0 -
So, I got a large loan to pay off several cards and a loan, this credited my current account after I transferred it from my euro account to my sterling account at the relevant exchange rate. I am paid in euro and transfer to sterling monthly and the difference can be several hundred depending on the exchange rate. I did the payments to each company by internet banking based on the balances they gave me - that is why I am shocked that a card went into credit by such an amount. My reference to an old bank account is that a debit card refund came through that I was unaware of and put my account into credit when I was really in an overdrawn position before hand.
Bankers are the worst at keeping an eye on finances!!

Don't understand this thread at all, at best it's a whingey rant about a bank/ credit card provider, and all the OP seems to have done is get into arguments with other forumites when they haven't given him the answer he wants.
OP - if you worked in banking then you should know the form, just lodge a formal complaint and take it to the ombudsman if the answer isn't what you want to hear, you might get a result but from your confusing description then it seems to be more your fault than the banks.0 -

I think the issue is just being over complicated by the additional information.
You received a cheque which was not banked in good time. You tried to present it at your bank five years later, this was refused due to the age of the cheque. When your new cheque was reissued it was lost in the post.
All subsequent information is superfluous.0 -

I think it was the original cheque which was lost ?
If the cheque is being reissued, can't see what the issue is ? Definately no interest or compensation is due.0 -
Hi there
I found a cheque which is 5 years old from my credit card company
I have asked them to reissue the cheque as my bank requested this de to the age of the cheque. My bank lost the cheque in the post sending it back to me.
Meer I've edited the post obviously, but the above points are what made me think that a second cheque had been issued. Maybe I've picked it up wrong0
