I think your savings are down to call costs and threatening to leaving giving u a discount.

For a new customer Cable BB is actually more expensive (if u were to pay the line rental 12months in advance) or very little in it.
But yes you are making a good saving on calls.

I've got 60 Mb Virgin BB and a phone line.
I called them to cancel the phone line, and they offered me £5 less a month to keep the phone than it would have been to have BB alone.

I have done a similar thing myself, went with BB only from Virgin when BB was half price for 6 months.

I then bought one of these :

and set it up to use sipgate. Works very well, though was quite tricky to setup. It also means when I'm out and about I can connect my mobile to sipgate and answer home phone calls.
