Wickes vs. Ikea kitchen?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of Wickes or Ikea kitchens? I have found 2 which are roughly the same in price (Wickes is £100 cheaper because they have a 10% off weekend plus cash back), but don't know which to go for for quality purposes.
Thanks

Benchmarx do the same kitchens as supplied to Wickes, so may well work out cheaper buying from them.
I had a Benchmarx kitchen, fitted last year & am more than happy with it & would definitely buy from them again.I've had Magnet & Howden's kitchens in the past, but when getting quotes this time round, Benchmarx came out on top for price on comparable kitchens. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
My brother and his partner have a beautiful kitchen from ikea. It looks really expensive and it's solid. I'm afraid I can't comment on the Wickes one0

We have an ikea kitchen. Adel doors, pragel worktops and boholmen sink.
The sink scratches and marks very easily, despite being stainless steel. The worktops mark easily (but were very cheap.)
The end panels next to the extractor hood, above the hob are swollen from the steam.
The cupboard door covering has shrunken on the door nearest/above the toaster.
Other than this it has been ok.
Some fitters do complain about fitting them as they are flush to the wall, so if you have any pipes or wires running along the wall this can be a pain.
We also had problem with the waste pipe as the waste pipe for the sink was a different size than the main waste pipe coming into the house. If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -
I am assuming you are talking about wickes take away kitchens as i have never heard of any wickes kitchen ever been cheaper than ikea. If this is the case, ikea build quality is far better. Hard to say as i hate fitting ikea and fit for wickes, but only fit a take away once or twice a year.
Ikea comes with it fitting issues, mainly the lack of service void behind the base units for pipes and cables. I think they have changed the units recently but unsure if its for the better.0 -
We have a howdens kitchen. Happy with it so far...There is more to life than increasing its speed.0

Had a quote from wickes yesterday they just dont seem transparent in pricing.
I will explain that later if needs be.... annoyed with them in a way reminds me of yrs agao when we had magnet quote and they said you must sign NOW to get these 'amazing!!' discounts. So of course we didnt.
So im going to look at homebase. Any thoughts on them....??
Thanks0 -

We got a homebase kitchen and are very happy with it, the price was very competitive and we had no pressure sales as the lady give us the price and told us to shop around for the appliances and they would price match ( which they did).
it was easier for us to get everything from one place and we changed our mind quite a few times.
Howdens on the other hand were very pushy and showing off with they way they did things.
Kitchen has been fitted and we had a few niggles but they sorted them out straight away so very happy with themBlessed on 18th February 2014 at 0814 with little Sarah xxx0 -

What you will soon find out it that no one is transparent on prices. As soon as anyone tries to be, the opposition immediately undercuts them, and it is for this reason that no one wants to give you a transparent price. I guess Ikea are as close as you get to transparently priced kitchen.
Howdens with their 80% discount off an imaginary list price that no one in history has ever paid are as laughable as anyone else!0 -
I've got an Ikea kitchen and love it. The cabinets are 18mm and I had one of the more expensive worktops (but still not that expensive lol). The only thing I wouldn't buy again from them is the stainless steel sink as it doesn't look as good as a Leisure or Franke one. I didn't buy the cooker etc from them either. My hubby fitted the kitchen for me.0
