    I am more prepared for my call with them on Monday now. :)

    If they mention it should have been sent recorded, point them to their own terms and conditions and tell them that they cannot retrospectively change those terms and conditions.

    You were only liable as long as the item was in your possession/an agent acting on your behalf. Since they are the ones who have the contract for return postage.....your liability ceased upon delivering the item to their agent. If their agent loses it, then thats a contractual dispute between the two of them and nothing to do with you.

    Some rubbish being posted on here, proof of postage doesnt mean you posted anything , proof of delivery is what you really need.

    There is no way they will refund you and no way they are liable just because they paid the postage you still need to prove you actually sent the shoes to them which proof of postage doesnt do because it could be anything.

    Make a claim through the post office proof of postage is good enough for them.

    Well that's ironic. It would've been true IF op had arranged her own return and carrier.

    She didn't, she used the carrier recommended and paid for by Selfridges. Therefore the onus is on them.

    Op can't make a claim, as she didn't pay the postage. The contract is between the retailer and the PO. Not op and the PO, therefore it's down to the retailer.

    Royal Mail will accept a claim from either the sender or intended recipient regardless of who paid.

    So if "proof of postage" doesn't mean that you posted something, what exactly does it mean then? And if nothing was posted, where did the "proof of postage" appear from?

    OP. When you printed the label. Did it provide a barcode starting with the likes of XY?

    The label I printed out had a bar code with this underneath it: 00600101029847140114205511

    The square box at the top right had: Return Postage Paid, Licence No. 542726PR

    Bris - I don't understand your logic. If you are saying that someone could post anything (i.e. nothing or something different) back to the retailer whilst obtaining a proof of postage, then you are implying that the person posting it must clairvoyant, as they must have prior knowledge it will not arrive, otherwise the retailer will receive an empty parcel (or parcel with incorrect contents) and thus will know that the person returning the item is being fraudulent.
