  • I received a call today from the Barclays dept that handles the payment break plan for my old Monument card, they thanked me for filling in the paperwork and asked me the same questions over again, IE... why do I think i am owed a refund for my pbp yadda yadda yadda, he then stated that he would be passing it on to his superior to work out how much refund I would be awarded and told me that I should see a cheque before 13th Oct... fingers crossed...:T

  • Been having regular telephone conversations with monument re- the payment break plan refund that i am due.

In 2007 my credit card debt was sold to another company.

But i recently received a letter informing me that i am due a refund of £1200 for the pbp payments that i have made prior to selling the debt.

Monument are now saying that they will not pay me the refund cheque but instead they will send the refund amount to the debt company to reduce the debt.

I have argued that monument owe me that money based on the fact that i made those pbp payments for years prior to the debt being sold to another company.

I have spoken to the financial ombudsman and they will send a letter to monument.

Does anyone know what the legal position is on monuments refund please?

Any suggestions what i should do would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
  • Did you get further with your claim hellywelly65? Thanks
  • Hi all, this is my first post but I'd like to tell you all to persevere with your claim... After sending a letter off a few weeks ago and hearing nothing I sent another email on Tuesday of this week, then on Thursday I received a final offer letter from them for £17,500 I couldn't believe it when I read the letter and my cheque arrived today.... My claim wasn't anything unusual just straight forward mis selling and they knew that .... So stick with it and send another letter or email or make another call it could make the difference between a cheque or not

I was sent a letter from Monument credit card, received Saturday 10th September 2016, stating I am due a refund of Payment Break Plan of £760.69! I did not write to them or contact them in any way prior to receiving the letter. I have telephoned them on 01293 228702 and the call was transferred to a call centre in southeast Asia. Went through the security questions, needed prompting to remember password as I had this card more than 10 YEARS HENCE!!! Apparently the cheque has been confirmed on the 8th September 2016 and I should receive it within 28 days! If I receive it, and if the cheque is honoured, I will post again and let you know. Frankly I'm AMAZED. Will let you know what happens

Cheque for £760.69 arrived Monday and has been cashed and in my account as of today \(^o^)/
When I spoke to the Monument customer services, they said that they are contacting all customers who had a credit card with them who also took out a Payment Break Plan policy, as it was miss sold to them.

  • Hi

I received a letter last week from Monument saying that I was due a refund of £5606.53. Quite a pleasant surprise. I immediately rang Customer Services and was told that this was true, however I needed to send in Utility bills for proof, which I agreed too.

The following day I rang again to confirm the amount I was due back and was told that it would be £3750.00 as they will deduct £1856.53 still owed to the company. I requested the payment via Banks Transfer as my letters are sometime delivered to the wrong address plus I had one fraudulently cashed before. The adviser was persistent that a BACS transfer could not be done but after me ranting and raving at him as to why i needed it to be BACS because of security he agreed that the money will in my account in two days.

Furthermore I called two days later as I had not received the money and was now told by an adviser that they owe me £5606.53 and not £3750.00 as the £1856.53 was written off as bad debt but they need confirmation from the debtor. I thought that it would be £5606.53 as the debt is more than 6 years old.

Firstly can anybody advise that a Bank Transfer can be done rather than a cheque

Secondly anybody know the email address

Thirdly I have wrote a letter to them to say why I want a Bank transfer rather than a cheque, but have said in the letter that if they are persistent that they will only issue a cheque then I will pick it up in person from there office

Any advice and guidance ppl or anybody had same letter/experience
