  • Great work!

So much more of an achievement I think as you are doing it as the sole earner.
  • Thanks, it is hard doing it on your own, but also easier not having a partner to try and convince not to spend, my ex was a nightmare spender and left me in lots of debt! I'd have paid my mortgage 5 years ago if I didnt have to remortgage :(

Oh well done you - I dream of those sort of figures - somehow they look more manageable.

Well done oldie rebranded! I've always thought your journey was amazing to do it on your own with expensive teens. Luck forward to the next installment p's £100,000 escape to the sea fund or whatever title you choose.

Extra well done for sub 10k, lots of people have car loans for more lol

  • On reading other peoples threads and seeing the value of peoples houses who have houses and mortgages 3-4 times larger than mine (jealous of the house not the mortgage!) and finish them in 4-5 years I sit and think what on earth am I playing out with my little mortgage! I started this journey about 6 years ago and still have just under a year to go. I feel disheartened slightly. I know I am doing it on my own but even so if I had worked as hard as some of you I may have been able to hit my target for the end of this year but I am 7-8 months over :(

This past few months I have not been frugal in the slightest, some weeks we have eaten out not once but twice!

This next week I plan to do the cupboard challenge and not buy anything apart from milk, fruit and bread etc. I have started buying the 15p morrisons tinned potatoes and wonder why I have never bought these before! They are fine for sides or to go in casseroles. Kids are okish with them. I have a freezer full of stuff so will list and meal plan and he kids can like it or lump it!
A list of things to stick to, not neccessarily for next week but September in general.

    *NO TAKEAWAYS THIS WEEK!
*NO CHARITY SHOP BROWSING (another weakness of mine - buying stuff I dont need cos its really cheap!)
    * Iron the kids school stuff before Thursday, not the night before
    * Carry on with the decluttering - I have stopped (lazyitess) and have gone back to my old ways.
*Join Big Picture Classes online free 14 day trial and try and learn some arty ways. I want to get some art on my walls.
    * Try and do more surveys.
    OneP is at £31.80
    PineC is 1200 pts
    Val OP is at £8.80
    Panel Op is at £2.40
    Isay 1215 pts
    * Start xmas shopping as I have usually bought half by now and have not bought a single item!

So far I have wasted this whole weekend by marathon tv watching and reading peoples diaries on here. sometimes I think its good to be able to do nothing BUT then after you have wasted that time you look around the house and its just getting worse around you lol Especially with teenage kids being at home through the summer hols and not knowing where the kitchen bin is or even where the kitchen is to put things back!!

  • Afternoon, doing this as a couple is hard enough but I think all the MFWers doing this journey alone, or supporting kids are phenomenal. It's a hard slog and I think the hardest bit is keeping motivation.

NewGirly is brilliant for her challenges to help motivation. Doing a store cupboard challenge is something I really enjoy :o. It's mad how much money we have locked up in cupboards, fridges, freezer etc.

Not sure whether it would help but the Kondo book was a big benefit to us in clearing stuff. Previously we have decluttered but doing the same type of stuff from everywhere at once, was far better.

I'm sure the kids would help - I know this doesn't work for everyone but we included the kids in our journey - it really did teach them some good lessons.

Aug 2016 will be here in a flash.

Take care and having a Sunday off sounds like a good thing to me :)

  • I have been following KM, its brilliant. I have got rid of so much stuff already.

As for the kids, its not clicked in yet :( Although my DD did say when shes older she wants to be more like me than her dad - yay! I hope it sticks!
