I have an acer aspire laptop (2 years old) it's been a bit slow recently but this morning it wont load past the windows logo, I have tried the recommended start up repair but it does that for hours then goes back to the windows logo, Nothing new had revently been put on the laptop (programes or otherwise), I have to force it to shutdown and have tried to start it normally but nothing, is it normal for a start up repair to continue for 4 hours, any help very much appreciated
Big Thanks to all who post on the comps board

The most likely problem is that the hard drive has been failing for some time, and has now failed. Fit a new one (fifty quid) and restore from either your backups or from the installation CDs. You might be able to recover some or all of your data, if you don't have backups, by putting the failed disk into an enclosure and plugging it in to another machine.0

Thank you I'm not very techie minded, whats an installation cd - I didn't have one with it, and what is the failed disc (sorry like I said I'm not techie minded)Big Thanks to all who post on the comps board0

If you are not technically minded, take it to a computer repairer and get them to sort it out.0

can you boot it into safe mode? this is probably hitting <F8> key repeatedly when laptop is starting up.
I would think your drive hasn't completely failed (if indeed this is the problem) because it does try to load windows.Friendly greeting!0 -

Yes hitting f8 has started it up in safe mode. (Although it is looking a bit weird now )Big Thanks to all who post on the comps board0 -
It will
Shut Down from within safe mode and try a normal restart.
I shut down from safe mode but it Still wont load windows, there is a company nearby who will take a look and if its the hard drive will replace it for 90 quid so i think I will drop the laptop in tomorrow for them to ate a lookBig Thanks to all who post on the comps board0 -
Try doing a system restore to a few days ago whilst in Safe Mode.0
