In answer to your first question, no dwp won't try to claim anything back unless somebody has made a fraudulent claim.

On to your second question. It's nigh on impossible to get Income supprt backdated to a date prior to your claim. It's only possible if DWP have made a serious error in not paying you when they should have.

Lack of knowledge about eligibility of a claim will not be considered a valid reason, or anything similar. The onus is on the claimant to make the claim as soon as they become eligible, so you would be wasting your time making any kind of appeal as the rules are set in stone & have to be ahered to & there is no flexibility for individual circumstances alas.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Well I thought that may be the answer I won't take it any further because I have spent far too much time contemplating and worrying about whether to do it or not. It's given me a big headache!
