DWP assistance with mortgage payments

Hi sorry if this has been posted before but does anyone know how much the DWP pay towards monthly mortgage payments for those people on Income Support and have a mortgage?

Does it depend on the individual's circumstances or is it a set amount?

    Hi

I think... that the DWP will only pay the interest on the Mortgage and you have to have been on benefits for 12 months before they will do this.

I am not 100% sure though.. but this is what I have been told.
  • Thanks for that I do have a claim currently going through because I can apparently get this right away due to an "abandonment" situation whereby my partner has left me and I have two very young children - I am still waiting to hear and just wondered if anybody knew how much it would be so I can budget my monthly income (if you can call it that!)

  • Just to say thanks for all your advice and that the DWP have confirmed they will pay approx 50% towards my monthly mortgage payment so it's better than a kick in the teeth!

I'm so pleased for you, and yes, it most certainly is better than a kick in the Teeth!

I hope everything goes well for you in what must be such an awful situation.

will you be able to work to make up the rest of the Mortgage?

Check out entitled.co.uk for other benefits you can get...

    Good Luck xx

Just looked at that site http://www.entitledto.co.uk and I think I am now aware of what benefits I am entitled to - well I am unable to work at the moment due to personal circumstances but my family have been very good helping me financially since the break up.

    Thanks for your support.

Hi, if the DWP accept you've been 'abandoned' you get nothing for the first 8 weeks then they pay half of your mortgage interest costs from week 9 for the next 18 weeks. After that they pay 100% of the mortgage interest.

    Good luck with everything

I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!

Thank's they have already started paying my mortgage because I have been on Income Support since end of March. I didn't know about them paying 100% after 18 weeks that's good to know however the house is up for sale so may end up selling before the 100% start.

    A few further questions however:-

I have numerous debts and after the sale of the house there will be nothing left - does the DWP claim anything back from any money they have given to me (i.e. Income Support and assistance with mortgage)?

Also this next question may belong to another thread however I will proceed on here and hope nobody shouts at me haha:-

I have struggled getting back pay for Income Support since my partner left at the end of January (only paying me from end of March when I first contacted them). I have not taken it any further because apparently I didn't apply for it within the stipulated time of a month (a break down of a relationship with 2 young children does take its toll and I had to give up work and was suffereing with depression!) However none of that has been taken into consideration and I don't know if I should take it to the next step and appeal. Doubtful I will get anywhere. Not really sure what to do, if anything now?
