Is Blackley in Manchester a good place?

I lived on the border of Blackley / Harpurhey for a year in 2003 when I was a student. I also worked in the local Asda for a while as well.
I remember it being pretty rough, tbh.
Good luck in your search.0 -
OP only lives in didsbury so could easily go have a look in the area.
This is only a general comment but it does amaze me how many people who live south of moss side/hulme think that anywhere in north manchester is like Mars.
They dont know whats there, they have never been and dont want to go.
Its like a mini north south divide!
But believe me there is nothing to fear.
Bottom line, most judgements about areas where the majority of us live are simply estate agent constructs.
The only difference between for example higher blackley and burnage or similar is..well,,the name of the district.
They all have the same ingredients..houses,streets,people,shops,schools..
Only recently a supposedly desireable area of manchester..Chorlton was labelled UK burglary hotspot..
I can tell you why...because there are a lot of terraced properties and a lot of itinerant smack heads in the area and surrounds.
Didsbury..again supposedly posh ,but by whos standards? More estate agent ramping,,its just another suburb with houses, shops and a string of bars..so what ?
So every area has its issues.
I have been in so called affluent areas such as hale and tytherington and seen groups of youths swigging cheap lager and causing issues.
Bottom line, if the house fits with you,,buy it..
I have lived in north mancs,,lived there for years, never suffered any crime..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

The article I read said it had improved- it was previously the most burgled place in the UK, whereas now it is only the 3rdI saw a friend the other day who lives there and loves it, and she said it is because everyone has such nice stuff, and it is so relaxed that everyone leaves the doors open, ha.
Is Blackley on the tram? If I was buying in Manchester that would be one of my main criteria. Certainly for friends who have bought in nearby Prestwich that one was one of the key factors0 -

It could be on the tram depending which part of Blackley and how far you were prepared to walkFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
