JSA Agreement

My JSA agreement states I need to apply for 63 jobs a week, which was relatively easy the first week or so as I was applying for jobs that had been posted over the last 2 -3 weeks.

However it is now becoming harder to find so many jobs and wondered if anyone else had this number on their agreement and should I be raising my concerns with my adviser, as when I sign on no one is actually asking for evidence of the number of jobs I have applied for.

  • This is one of those occasions when your Job Seekers Agreement should be renegotiated. 63 jobs per week is a ludicrous amount, personally I would have never been able to do that with any sort of quality being maintained.

63 steps per week would still be high but would be somewhat more realistic. Does it definitely say 'jobs' and not 'steps'?

That is absolutely ridiculous! Are you sure it's not just a typo or did your advisor explicitly tell you that was how many jobs you need to apply for?

first does it say 67 or 6-7? and also does it say you have to apply for 67 or carry out 67 steps to find work?

if it does say you have to apply for 67 jobs a week, you need to go back and ask for the agreement to be changed and only sign if you believe the new target is doable, if it isn't then refuse to sign it, you will likey not get any JSA but will have to go to your MP, it's either a case of that or being sanctioned for not sticking to what you agreed to do, I think these agreements are not agreements at all, as if you refuse to sign you get no JSA, so people sign unreasonable agreements only to be sanctioned for not sticking to them.

Sorry but all you can do is wait for the sanction and then contact your MP.

I have to apply for 6 a week and thought that was a lot, as I have no control over what is available every week so I should not have to agree to something I have no control over.

Thanks for your replies, it definitely isn't a typo error, even the person who signed me on today at the Job Centre was surprised at the high amount when she read my agreement!! Although re-reading it I think I may have misinterpreted it as it states "I will conduct at least 63 actions a week in order to help me get work"

So 63 actions could be any combination of the following

    Look on the UJM site
    Look in the local press
    Send spec CV's/letters
Use various other sites - all counting as one action per site
    Send CV's to agencies
    Ask former work mate
    Ask friends

If you do at least 15 steps a day you will be ok

Remember to actually apply for jobs too

63 'actions' still seems a hell of a lot.

With a recent (?) report saying the younger were being sanctioned at higher % than anyone else, I was wondering what age group you fit into Lakes17?

Is there any reason why they have picked odd number like 63 ?

What else does your agreement say & specify ?

the advisers probably have a competition to see who can give the most steps, the previous record must have been 62 ;)
