My dd is 33 weeks pregnant with her first baby. He is 17 " long and is fixed in a transverse position ie across the body with his bum up on my daughters left side. What are the chances of him turning into the head down position?

With 7 weeks to go possibly more with it being a first pregnancy he could still turn. Tell her to get down on her hands and knees, this will open up the room in her bosy and can help him turn. Or some heat at the bottom of the bump and cold at the top to encourage him to turn again has been said to help.
I dont think docs like to turn first babies from the outside as ive heard its not very pleasant.
Im on my second this time and he is head down now, i have less than 4 weeks to go tho.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
You can go for accupuncture, this was recommended to me when I had a breech baby.
I went and it definitely stimulated the baby, but as we later found out, I had a ridge in my womb, so much as he was stimulated to move he was wedged in place so hadn't a hope of turning. (wish I had found that out before I had the very painful (unsuccessful) turn done at the hospital!
Make sure it is a practitioner who has experience in pregnancy and turning.
They should end up sticking pins in foot and sometime on your ears and head, then they burn candles to the side of mum's little toes (without touching of course!).0 -
Don't panic yet, there's still plenty of time for turning.:D
To help it along, some tips I have used are:
Sit backwards on an upright chair whilst watching tv (so she is leaning forward slightly)
Spend some time on her hands and knees...rocking gently back and forwards to encourage movement
At night, she should sleep on her left hand side....... this also helps improve the blood flow to the placenta.

tell her to start nesting and scrub all the floors.... and when she's done with hers, she can come and do yours
it worked for me
(seriously, this is the right position to be in to encourage baby to move)0 -
Thank you all so much. I have e mailed a list of tips to her. Sitting on a squashy sofa could very well be a reason
I had my first baby at 23 and my third at 29 and ignorance was bliss!! I think baby no 1 was late turning but I thought nothing of it. Now I know better0 -
sitting on a birthing ball is very good too - much better for her posture and the baby's position than a squashy sofa
or a cheap gym ball works just as well (for much less money)
- this can also be used in early labour 0 -
Definitely the kitchen chair routine, it worked for me as late as 37 weeks. I watched telly all night in my Christine Keeler pose! I did also lie flat down on the floor with a cushion beneath my head and my legs up a wall, with my bum pressed up as near to the wall as I could ( a sort of L position if that explains it) but I would check that one with the midwife as it can make you a bit light headed!0

As others have said, scrub the floors like a mad woman! It worked well for me and my floor had never been so clean.0

She's got a long way to go yet before needing to worry about this! I was carrying twins and was told at 38 weeks I shouldn't worry about the positioning yet!0

thank you. You are all so re-assuring. Anyone would think it was me having the baby0
