If you had the foresight to know when an unforseen event is likely to occur, surely you wouldn't book a trip anyway.......

Exactly the point I was trying to make, but I couldn't find the tongue in cheek smilie.

No it wont. I claimed last year, all you need is that obviously you book the travel insurance before any incident arises. I think I booked my insurance maybe a couple of days after booking the hol, then I got ill about a week or so before the holiday.

So if you book a holiday online, then 5 minutes later book the insurance, unless you have a heart attack or something in that space of 5 minutes whats the issue?

Of course, you're right and a couple of days later isn't much of a risk but the longer you leave it the greater the risk of you or close family being taken ill or having an accident. It might not happen but that's the whole point of insurance.

It doesn't affect me as I have an annual policy but I know someone who let his annual policy lapse, planning to reinstate it when he booked his next holiday. He left it until afterwards, subsequently taken ill and lost the cost of 2 holidays as his DW didn't want to go without him.

Yes, but it's when the policy is taken out that is important, not when the holiday is booked.
If the policy had been taken out before he was taken ill it wouldn't have made any difference whether that was before or after the holiday was booked.

I'd say take it out before you book the holiday.

If you try to claim and the insurance date is after the holiday's booked then it could be difficult.
    is still incorrect.

There seems to be differing opinion on the insurances...do I buy it before or after i book holiday? Also, where is good to get it from? Please bear with me, this is my first time at going abroad!
