Accessing voicemail - for free?

Sorry about asking this, but so fed up trying to find this out on individual sites :(

My Orange Panther deal is coming to an end, (£20.50 - £10), so I need a new sim . As it costs actual money to listen to messages on this plan, I was hoping to find a network that was either free, or used up text messages. So far, I can see Tesco doing this, but T Mobile only on the full Monty.

Anyone wanna help me out with the other ones, please? I am the phone contact for a voluntary group, so may well be getting voicemail from strangers making enquiries - family I can ignore!

Many thanks

Define 'free' on Giffgaff voice mail is part of the included minutes, for example.

The Three "One Plan", SIM only, includes free access to voice mail. And doesn't come out of the 5000 3 to 3 minutes (or I don't think it does). Anyway, it doesn't make much of a dint in those minutes.

All my Vodafone, TalkMobile and O2 contracts use bundle minutes to access voicemail; I believe with Talkmobile (at least) it may depend on the plan - in my case they gave me incorrect information about it originally and I only found out that voicemail did come out of my bundle some time later.

If you have a smartphone then the Hullomail app is a good option.

As far as I am aware it only works with the main network providers on contract aside from also 3 payg and giffgaff. I once tried to use it on Ovivo but it didn't work.

The retrieval service uses minutes from your monthly allowance rather than the higher non standard charges imposed by many companies.

For me, the functionality of the app is way better than standard voicemail offerings from the phone companies and I would use it even if my voicemail call back was free.
  • Just checked, on the Three One Plan there is no deduction in 3 to 3 minutes for a call to voice mail.
  • Thanks everyone. Mine is a Windows phone, so Hullomail is not an option unfortunately.

You can get your messages by dialling an access number or via mobile internet as well

Bear in mind that minutes are also used up by the call diversion when people leave voicemails

The reason it didn't work with Ovivo and most other payg is they don't support call diversion.
