Argos Credit Card Help

in Credit cards
Recently i went into my local Argos store with the thought of picking up a PS4 using the Argos Credit card with the view to pay the £399 over the 6 months they give you.
After she explained all the bits and bobs, she asked me for my address and my debit card details, i gave her both without hesitation, she continued to setup a delivery time, and was just about done she then turns and tells me "Oh it dosnt look like its gone through, we will be in touch within 7 to 10 days". I didn't fully understand what had just happened so i got home and contacted Argos Card customer services, and got a really (Obviously bored of her job) agent who told me to contact Experian to check my credit rating... :wall:
Ok a bit about me, im a 24 year old living with my father...
I recently moved into my fathers from my mothers whom ive been living with for the last 15 years.
Ive had no credit cards, as a matter of fact ive never had anything negative happen to me financially.
So i thought there was no real need to check my credit report, to be 100% honest ive no idea what a credit report is lol i just know its required to be good to get a credit card... lol
After sitting down with my father and asking him why i might have been declined, he mentioned that i might not be on the electoral roll for his address, the address i put when i applied in store or the card...
Long story short what im asking is...
1) Could not being registered to the address i applied with (Through the electoral Roll) be the reason i was denied ?
2) If the above is the reason (and after registering myself to the address) should i wait before applying again for the card ?
Thank you for any help much appreciated

Drinking contests with humans are unbearable. They drink, they collapse, and we have to drag them back to their homes. The next day they never remember losing.

No history of managing credit = High Risk which in turn can look as bad as someone who's got a default on their credit files in terms of Risk.
Argos has no proof and evidence you'll pay them back."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0 -
1) yes could well be a factor in the decline (although may not be the only reason). Have you ever had any credit accounts at all? any current ones? and if so which address are they at?
2) yes I would. You need to wait until you have registered with the council and they have next updated the register, and then it can take another month or even 2 before this is reflected on your reports with the 2 credit reference agencies.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for your sharp replys guys,
CherlokHomes Hmmm loose/loose situation then
Tixy I dont have and never have had any credit accounts, i do have a current account and its in good standing and has never been over drawn...
The Current Account(Bank Account) is registered with my fathers i changed the address for that as soon as i moved into his house so i would get the mail.
Ive requested a form from my council, and im still waiting for a letter from Argos outlying the reasons, i hope...Drinking contests with humans are unbearable. They drink, they collapse, and we have to drag them back to their homes. The next day they never remember losing.0 -
Unfortunately you will struggle to get a decent form of credit without any decent credit history. I know it sounds crazy but lenders can't check how you've managed credit in the past as you've not had any. I would suggest one of the credit building credit cards that are around who will look more favourably at individuals with no credit history. If used wisely and payments made on time that will be reported to the credit reference agencies and will boost your credit rating.
I hope that helps.0 -
Yeah it makes sense Rosco32, ill await the letter from them and i can see where i can go from there. CheersDrinking contests with humans are unbearable. They drink, they collapse, and we have to drag them back to their homes. The next day they never remember losing.0

do you have an overdraft available for your current account ?
as that would be a credit account.
When was it you actually applied for the card, they said they would be in touch in 7 to 10 days, have they ? and if so what did they say ?
was the card actually declined, or was it just referred for additional checks ?
I had something simlair with the Argos card, althou i ordered online rather than instore. They contacted me asking for additional information, specifically, to confirm my address.
I wasn't on the Electoral Roll at the time as i had just moved.
After the received the information, the card was then approved.
If it was a decline, then lack of credit history and not on the Electoral Roll would be the most likely reasons0 -
Cycrow I have a 10pound buffer on my account but it's not something I've asked for and you can't get it taken off.
I applied on Tuesday 28th January and no reply yet, tbh, I'm not expecting a reply until the end of next week.
The argos agent in my local branch didn't really give much information, she just said, it hasn't went through, we'll be in touch with you in 7 to 10 days... I should have really questioned her a bit more but stupid me just nodded and walked out haha.
Ive spoken to a friend who I work with and he lives with his parents, very similar situation to me and he did his online and had no problems... Kinda wishing I did it online now grrrDrinking contests with humans are unbearable. They drink, they collapse, and we have to drag them back to their homes. Argos are strict, and if your friend is on electroll and other cards this will go in his favour.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
