Tesco additional accounts

Options
I recently read that you can create a new account on Tesco using all the same information but simply using a different email address. This enables me to use their "£15 off when you spend £60" coupon as I'm then classed as a "new customer".

Someone told me today they don't think that's legal. I thought I was just being shopping savvy and funnily enough my tesco delivery driver told me about this tip last time I had shopping delivered.

Anyone know?

as Tesco are responsible for any costs and discounts they decide to offer it is hard to see how they could be defined as illegal. What laws do you think are being broken ?
  • I'm unsure myself too! Just wanted to see if there was any truth to it at all. Something that I didn't think or know about regarding legislation.

I suppose they could possibly say it was fraud - but you would need to read through all the T&Cs

I think it could be fraud, but I doubt tesco would take you to court over it.
  • I suppose so, but I always enter my information correctly, it's always my correct name, address, bank details, I just use another email address. So I suppose technically as they let me set the account up with same details as of that of an already existing account that would be their fault for not checking?

I just want to know where I stand I suppose, plus prove this person wrong haha.

Well fraud is defined as obtaining money be deception. So if you get £15 by agreeing to their T&C's and it says that you are only allowed one account - then you are committing fraud. As said it's unlikely they'll take you to court although I've heard of clubcard points all being confiscated.
Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

Of course it's not their fault! You are setting out to take money that you have no right to take, that will always be your fault.

If the offer is for new customers only, and you find a way around the system, then that is your fault for doing it, not the systems fault for not stopping you.

If we all thought like you there would not be any courts or prisons or any kind of legal system at all. There would be no point as whenever a crime was commited it would be the victims fault for letting it happen!
  • Do the half price trick on the £60 shop ;) by using the code.

Bingo it arrives and you've only paid £15ish (£60.. Goes to half price £30 minus £15 code)

I do think that if you use the same house after a certain amount of times it's probably quite easy for them to black list you for abuse

I got a similar code by setting up an account for my partner.
As his account doesn't get used much they sent him lots of money off codes and half price delivery saver deals.
As a long time, repeat customer I got offered....nothing :-(

    Define "new customer".....

If I have shopped in store at Tesco am I a new customer?

If I have shopped on-line with Tesco a week ago am I new?

Alternatively, am I making an offer to pay an amount for goods, to which Tesco are agreeing?
