Am just wondering if anybody in here knows - can I fly Edinburgh to Gatwick without a passport? Mine is out of date.

No, you will need one to leave Scotland0

Not for immigration purposes, but most airlines require photo ID for security before they'll to allow you to board the plane. An expired passport may be accepted - airline's requirements are usually detailed on their website

Ok thanks for that, just checked and it's actually Stansted Airport. I will check with Edinburgh and see what they say.

As jackieblack says, it will be the airline that you are flying with who have the final say - not the departure airport.0

Drivers license is acceptable as well should the airline agree.
To be honest I've only ever done this with BA and they've never had an issue.
I wish we had an identity card system in this country - my wife is Italian and they take hers all across Europe instead of a passport. Passport is only needed to get out of Europe.
It's just a useful backup should the passport ever go missing...in her job she travels all over Europe so it helps.0 -
Unless they've changed it, Ryanair will only accept a passport
That's the only one I've come across though that won't take a photo driving licence for UK domestic flightsChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Oh that's great, thanks!0

Edinburgh - Stansted, I'm guessing that could be Easyjet? (I've done this flight)
Easyjet will accept a photocard driving licence if you have one on a UK domestic flight
