Inspiration for valentines day

All, thanks for your ideas - they are amazing.
I want to do something nice to distract her from sitting around and moping that we'll both end up doing unless I make us get up and go out. I love the picnic idea, bath and then helping with the chores in the evening so will give this a go.
InsideInsurance, you make a really great point and to be honest I haven't quite reconciled specifically what this is trying to do - I obviously don't want to distract to the point of forgetting about our lost little one but I don't want us to sit inside crying which is generally how we (well certainly my wife) feel like doing.
We have some trees that need planting that were delivered today so that is perfect timing too.
Thanks again, it has been really helpful and I am glad I posted.0 -
So sorry for your loss. Whilst I think it's lovely that you sound so thoughtful and want to do something special for your wife, I have also lost a baby girl in this way and I'm not sure that at just two years in I could've coped with being expected to feel anything other than overwhelmed with grief on our little one's birthday. I really think you should talk it over with your wife. As another poster said Valentine's day is just a date, decide to postpone it maybe and spend your sad anniversary remembering.
I don't know, everyone is different but what you have been through is dreadful and sad, so maybe its not unreasonable just to take some time to be sad0 -
Why not do something romantic at home? Cook the meal and watch a nice dvd. Your wife will be with her daughter so not worried, you don't need to travel at all and it could be a nice way of taking her mind off the dreadful event you have been through.
I would second this.
For the last four or five years, I have not booked a restaurant, for two reasons:
We cannot afford it
I can probably prepare and cook a better meal than all but the very best restaurants
I usually start the day by giving the house a really good clean, then make sure that the kitchen/dining area is clear of clutter.
Then I go out and get the food in - the OH really likes Sea Bass and I like a bit of steak. After that I think about starters and dessert, then wine - Barolo or Chateaneuf du Pape are my OH's favs.
I also think about decorating the room - not too much - a few scented candles, and a couple of bunches (OK BOUQUETS then;)) of flowers.
The secret about Valentines day, is thinking what THEY like, and then moulding everything around that.0 -
Right then tinybee. I have been saying the following for the past 3 years ....
I am about to share one of my greatest secrets with you. If you dare tell anyone I will hunt you down and stab you. This method is really really simple, it requires very little work but looks like you have done loads.
Follow these simple steps exactly and your missus will have no choice but to nosh you off:
1. Play it cagey, explain you have a surprise sorted out but you don't want to spoil it.
2. Obtain the following ingredients:
Chicken breasts x 2
Prosciutto or Palma Ham
Pesto
Sunblushed tomatoes
Mozzarella
Penne Pasta
Red Roses x 12
Candle x 1, burning for the use of.
3. Cut a pocket into the chicken breasts, stuff the pocket with pesto and mozzarella. Wrap the now stuffed pockets in the Ham, bake in the oven until cooked.
4. Boil the Penne.
5. Arrange the candle and roses on the table so it looks like you have made a big effort.
6. Serve the Penne with some more pesto, put the chicken breast on top. Scatter a few sunblushed tomatoes on top to add a bit of colour and ponce it up a bit.
7. Reap the benefits.
If this fails get a new missus, or a kitten.0 -
Thank you all. I am not sure whether to laugh or cry at that last post!
Thanks for the cooking tips though, it does sound like a lovely meal
