Virgin mobile sim only

Hi All,
I'm just out of my mobile contract and am tempted my going SIM only with Virgin Mobile but I have a few questions and there seems to be little info on their website and no easy way of contacting them online.
I wondered if anyone here could answer my questions?
I wondered if I can easily switch from one plan to another. They have a £12 per month option and a £15 per month and I was going to start with the £12 and switch to the £15 if I thought I needed it. It's a monthly rolling contract so I can change BUT is it going to be a hassle to do so?
The other question is - I've heard a whisper that they have student discounts on their contracts. I teach in a college so wondered if that discount also applied to me?
Can anyone help me with these?
Thanks.

Best advice would be call Virgin themselves. I will be moving to the VIP Plus Tariff in May when my o2 contract ends and you get all of this - unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data, unlimited calls to 0800, 0845, 0870 and 0808 numbers for £18, this will save me nearly £30 a month.0

Easy to change. Just ring up CS when you want to switch tariff and they'll do it on your next billing month. The other question is - I've heard a whisper that they have student discounts on their contracts. I teach in a college so wondered if that discount also applied to me?

I was going to go from my o2 contract to the £15 per month but yes, both offer a huge saving if you have a handset you are happy with.
I'm just not very happy with the terrible level of customer service from Virgin Mobile and really bad website that doesn't work that well. Calling them is the only option it seems...0 -
Thanks for the info. It seems the student discount is only open to actual students and then only to ones who pay for the NUS EXTRA card!Easy to change. Just ring up CS when you want to switch tariff and they'll do it on your next billing month.

Virgin do a tariff for £17pm which gives you
1200min
Unltd data, texts and calls to Virgin mobiles
If you ask retentions nicely they've been known to give up to £10pm off.....(not a student in sight) with a 30 sim only, you can deal with retentions pretty much from the start
Start by picking a tariff online that suits you for at least a few days then call. You'll need to pick a real tariff first and the £17pm is no longer showing online.0 -
I have the £7 pm SIM only deal. Been on it for a few months and it's been fine. Got charged £1 in the first month for internet access despite not going over my allowance. Spoke to customer services who immediately refunded the money.
Data signal has been ok, apart from the odd glitch in built up places.0 -
FWIW my daughter has it too, with BBM at no extra charge0
