i am currently 22 and i am thinking of moving in with my partner. i am currently living with my mother. i work away nearly every week mon-fri most of the year apart from the odd week. if i am sleeping at my partners on the weekend does this count as living there? if i have to declare living there i don't know if she will be worse of for it unless i pay £300 pcm or something like that for 8 days a month. i currently earn 16000 annually.

as with the reply from nannytone i would add the question do i count as living with my mother?

you ask if it would be classed as living together.
but at present you say you are 'living' with your mother.

so you class that as 'living' somewhere so why would it be different at your girlfriends rather than at your mothers?

i think you answered your own question .....
  • well i was thinking was i classed as living at my mothers now? i only class myself as that because i did before i was working away

I am presuming that your girl friend is on benefits.

For benefits purposes you would be classed as living there.

It is quite simple really. If someone asked 'where do you live?' you would presumably answer with your girl friend's address.

It's not the amount of nights that matter.

I find it odd that you say "I am thinking of moving in with my girlfriend" and then go on to say you'll only be living there at weekends.

Which address do you give to the bank, insurance companies, friends, etc?

Are you registered for voting? At which address?

Do you contribute to your GF's household?

If you're moving in as a couple, you can't be classed as a lodger.
