ah thank you all so much!! Given me alot to think about with it all!! .. I think because we are on a limited budget that the meal afterwards sounds perfect!
ive already been promised a nice fancy vow renewal with everything i missed out on (if i feel i need that) in a few years when our money situation sorts out, but hearing some of your days, ideas im begining to think i wont really be missing much apart from a lot of stress lol!
i no our registeu office is above the library so I'm hoping we can get a day with se sun so we can have some outdoor photos somewhere around here that looks nice0 -
If you have a local college you could maybe see if any hair & beauty or photography students would like to help you out on the day. Offers them great experience and can save you a fortune.
Not something everyone would be happy with for their wedding of course but something to think about0 -

that's actually a really good idea! I definitely wouldn't have thought of that!! Deffo would think about it for makeup! I mean if i end up not liking it i can just wash it off and start again and the photo's would be a good idea!0 -
I had a registry office wedding, it was lovely, the registrars were so nice. You go in, they have a quick chat with you then you go in, together or apart, I didn't want to be "given away" so we walked in together, through a little arch. The ceremony was fairly short and there was plenty of seating (about 40 seats, we only used 15!), but you could book a budget room with 2 witnesses if you wanted.
I wore a knee length dusky pink dress from Coast a bit like this http://www.coast-stores.com/lori-lee-lace-short-dress/all-dresses/coast/fcp-product/2224845839. I did my own hair and makeup, I didn't want to look like someone else on my wedding day
Then we went to a lovely hotel for an amazing meal and stayed over night (got bumped up to a lovely posh room to, bargain!).
The whole thing, including meal AND a 3 day "minimoon" in Wales afterwards cost less than 2k.0 -
aw that sounds lovely! And bonus on the room upgrade! I think that's the way im leaning to doing ours but i do want to look into a hotel wedding just incase there are some good deals and then everyone can be more involved!
there's not many places around here that nice for a fancier meal which is a shame, i might look into going out of f'wood for that though unless its to much hassle! That's another one to think about
so excited though a registry office had always been one of the last things i would have ever considered to get married but now its actually a lovely idea for a small wedding0 -
I used to work in a building that contained a register office and, believe me, the staff have seen everything from full wedding dress and top hat'n'tails to jeans and t-shirt and they will make sure it is a special day however you dress. The room itself will be smart and have nice flowers in it so no need to bring any unless you particularly want to. You can customise by adding your own poems or vows but the basic service (which lasts about 20 minutes) is really nice too.0

For those saying registry office weddings they have been to were about 20 minutes, does that include readings/music chosen by the couple or something? Because I have been to two registry office weddings and they were both less than 10 minutes! They were literally the bare bones - no readings or anything. (Both worked - one couple just wanted to get the legal bit out of the way so they could get to the partying, and it was a fab day, and the other couple had special needs so it was a bit different for them).
I agree with those who say do whatever you want (as long as you can afford it/are comfortable with the amount you spend). A wedding is about you, your partner and your children - your little family matter the most. Don't worry about what others might think.0 -
The two I've been to were about 15 mins tops including a (v short) reading at each.
ETA: they were both lovely! Just short0 -
I had one reading, and I "think" it was about 20 minutes, but tbh, it was a little bit of a blurr! I remember thinking "Are we REALLY getting married, eak!" then my darling OH fluffed his lines and I giggled0

I got married in a registry office almost 5 years ago. We aren't religious so, for us a church wedding was pointless.
It was very nice and intimate as our registry office would only hold 50. The interior was minimal but pleasant as it had only just been redecorated.
If they'd have had the spare registrar we'd have gotten married at our reception venue but it turned out well in the end having the break to go from one place to another gave us a bit of a 'breather'
