Paid car insurance twice!

While I would tend to agree that this should be put down as a lesson learned for the OP, at least they actually do bother to make sure their insurance is in order.
And that makes them 100,000,000 times less of an !!!! than the hundreds of thousands of pond-life in this country who do not. Give the OP a break

you have to disable auto-renewal every year. I cancelled on the year prvious but when I manually renewed with the same insurer for the following year auto-renewal was enabled.
I completely forgot about insurance renewal. Panicked. Went online to renew and found that have set up autorenewal.0 -
I have tried to explain my point of view in a number of different posts in this thread, if you can't see the point I'm making already it probably won't matter what else I say.
Basically I've fallen foul of an insurance company's small print and I'm in the wrong place if I'm looking for anyone to sympathise with my point of view.
The only problem you have is being able to admit that you have made a mistake.
If that is too much for you to do then that is your problem.
Here is a little bit of news from RAC:
What does continuous payment mean?
Continuous payment means that we will automatically renew your policy and take payment each year, unless you tell us otherwise. You will receive information about your renewal approximately 28 days before your renewal date so you can check your details and contact us with any questions or queries.0 -
My partner also had theirs auto-renewed... with no warning letter.
I don't mind it auto renewing but they surely could auto renew for hundreds more and hope you don't realise?0 -
OP - how did you know RAC weren't offering you the best deal if you hadn't received the renewal?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

I don't think that is legal.0 -
Auto-renewal is a con and should not be allowed. If the OP had paid by cheque or cash would they auto-renew? it's put in there T/C to trick and mislead people.

auto renewal isn't a bad thing, just when you are shopping for insurance the following year make sure you ring the current insurer and cancel auto renewal.
If you dont bother to shop around it's a good safeguard to stop you from driving without insurance as many people will simply carry on driving and forget that their insurance has expired. Then what happens? 3/6 points and a big-ish fine!
I actually forgot to renew my insurance on January 12th this year. I thought my renewal date was on the 18th so I just didn't bother with it - i thought i would start shopping on the 15th or something. Then I sat down to get the job done and holy moly. my insurance expired on the 12th!!
If i hadn#t had auto renewal i would have forgotton about this and would have been driving without iunsurane for 3 days!0 -
Which company, now and before the almost universal adoption of "autorenewal" doesn't send renewal documents at least a couple of weeks before the current policy expires?
This is a new "policy" to rake in more profits. You can always get a better deal, even with the same company, over the standard renewal.0 -
