OP, why do you find it so hard to accept you signed up to this?
You've been refunded time to learn and move on, life's too short.0 -
The whole ethos of this site is aimed at saving people money, and I almost lost money because of powers that I don't think a private company should have. I have been fortunate on this occassion that I wasn't stung by my previous insurer, not everyone will be so lucky and if someone is able to learn from my mistake then all the better.
That and people have made a point which is contrary to my opinion and I have expressed my disagreement. To begin with, I was annoyed because I thought I wouldn't be getting all my money back. My opinion is unchanged though, I don't think any company should be able to charge a sum of money to someone without them actively consenting to it.0 -

Unfortunately your opinion does not count, whether you like it or not you did consent to it as it is in the T&C's of your policy, if you failed to read them that is hardly their fault and as others have said it is a standard term with most insurance companies to prevent people having no insurance if they forget it is due or do not read their mail and it could save people a lot of money if it saves them from being pulled over for no insurance.0 -
I think people are unfairly attacking my point of view, I simply think that the insurance companies should not be allowed to add this clause to their T&Cs and like I said I'm surprised that it is even legal for them to take funds without the cardholders permission, it isn't legal for a shop to do it.
I got lucky someone else may not through no fault of their own, the obvious example is someone in a remote location with the armed forces for a few months and with very limited internet access could easily come home to a nasty surprise and would be too late to do anything about it but the insurance company's excuse "You didn't read your mail" so we just charged the amount to the credit card number you supplied last year.0 -

You could have opted out but you didn't. Why? Because you either didn't listen or read the policy.
I think members are wasting their time on you as you'll argue regardless.

I see what you're saying I am coming across as conforntational it's not deliberate, it's not always easy to express yourself through typing alone. I see it as an injustice and nobody wants to agree with me.

OP I don't see how you not opening the post is the insurance company's fault. If your away or on holiday it's your responsibility to either provide them with an alternative address or get someone to sort your mail for you.
If that was a reasonable excuse we could all pretty much get away with not paying any bills received in the post... Oh it wasn't my responsibility to ensure it was opened... Who's is it then?An opinion is just that..... An opinion0 -
I have tried to explain my point of view in a number of different posts in this thread, if you can't see the point I'm making already it probably won't matter what else I say.
Basically I've fallen foul of an insurance company's small print and I'm in the wrong place if I'm looking for anyone to sympathise with my point of view.0 -
Auto-renewal is another scam of the age we live in; should be banned!0
