At least you won't be unemployed while you're searching for another job, no matter what happens next. That's the main thing!:www: House Deposit = 100% Purchase Fees = 44%0

Very true, and thanks for your support. It's nice to know that not everyone thinks I'm an idiot for not waiting until clearance is passed.
I just have to convince the company that I want to be there, they've given me a 3 month notice period now
Better than no job I guess.0 -
So guys, latest and sadly final update.
Managed after much trouble to speak to the HR manager. Felt like I had committed a crime by the way he was speaking to me, very cold. He just said, I'm going to sound like a broken record but we can't give you any further details. I tried various angles to try and obtain a glimpse of info, just for my own piece of mind. The only thing I managed to gather, was that it was their internal checks which were in line with the DPSS checks, based on my information supplied, which I failed. Therefore, there must have been something they really didn't like to not give me a chance. I've been racking my brains for the past day about what it could be, and I'm still stuck. It could be a credit check, a bad reference from a past employer (which I highly doubt) or something else which I can't think of. I asked if I can have the information as it's details about me, and he said that they have a duty of protecting confidentiality, which would suggest that a referee has said something they shouldn't. But even so, it doesn't make sense. So that's it, a high paying responsible job down the drain for a reason I will never know.
Any further thoughts/ideas/suggestions very welcome0 -

you could take a look at your credit report, any check on it will leave a footprint of those that have accessed it, Experian is the main one, but there are 3, it should show on there, they also do a free online month trail.
You can then at least discount the credit check if there is no footprint showing.0 -
If you had Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) this does not involve a credit check. It's a check of references, right to work status, work history and unspent convictions, therefore it sounds like it is your references - can you make a subject access check to the referees?
Re: contractors - you seemed to suggest you were working for a company that had MoD contracts, therefore you would be classed as a contractor for security clearance, not a permanent civil servant. Apologies if I've misconstrued this.I am Doll Parts

I've written a letter to them on advice from ICO as they have to be able to send me any records they've obtained about me. They were so cold with me, no sympathy, almost like I'd hidden something major from them and they were angry with me. I'd understand that if I actually knew what I'd done!0

Just running through other possibilities, the only other thing I can think if is a mismatch on the Police National Computer? For BPSS you complete a Disclosure Scotland application for basic disclosure - did you do this? The Home Office get you to sign a waiver saying that you will have the certificate sent to them, instead of you - did this happen for MoD?
If you haven't seen a copy of the basic disclosure, ask for them to return it to you now that they have made their recruitment decision. You can then check it for accuracy. If it's incorrect you can raise a dispute with Disclosure Scotland to have it amended.I am Doll Parts

Just to say, the job is not with the MOD. They sell products to the MOD. But no, I hadn't even had chance to send back the disclosure Scotland forms, all I had sent them was a typed up list of my 4 work references from the past 5 years, my addresses and that's it.0 -
In that case, you haven't been through the security clearance process. It can only be your references.I am Doll Parts

I work in a role which requires us to have the full set of enhanced criminal checks done & it's caused issues as some people don't realise that verbal warnings, cautions & all convictions whether spent or otherwise show up, no matter how minor or how long ago. A friend's 'dead cert' job offer disapperared when it was discovered he'd been cautioned for a minor offence over 15 years ago, even though he had genuinely forgotten about it. I doubt it's down to your credit rating, as, unless some kind of fraudulent behaviour is recorded I doubt an employer would be overly bothered. I would certainly ask - in writing - for the reasons behind the offer being withdrawn. You must be gutted but these things happen to the best of us. Good luck!0
