That's brilliant news regarding your current job, a bit of peace of mind there - I bet you'll sleep better knowing that!:www: House Deposit = 100% Purchase Fees = 44%0

Yeah, though he said he can't make any promises until he speaks to HR. I'll update tomorrow.
I did have another thought, my past 2 jobs were contract roles, I wonder if the checks they did threw up nothing about those jobs, even though I gave the bosses as references. Perhaps the references hadn't come back yet, they got no record of my being employed there, if the DPSS checks where I was on payroll etc.
Thanks for all your support0 -
Just a thought - do you mean by contract that you were effectively self employed? could this be the problem?0

If they asked for addresses for last 5 years that is for a credit check. You can get a copy of your report from experian so make sure there isn't a mistake on there.0

sounds it could be the credit check.
something as simple as not being on the voting register can mean a fail, I had this when I went for a rental property, they told me I had failed, I knew I shouldn't have but they can not tell you why, so I printed off my credit report and took it in to show them, this was enough for them to change their minds.
sorry I have to say tho, ok you were told it was ok to hand in your notice but if the check hadn't been carried out by that point, there was always a chance you could fail it, so you are both to blame really, I do see your point tho.0 -
I too would think it is likely to be a credit check. Are you sure you have nothing there that you are not aware of.
I cross my fingers for you that it was just a mistake though even if you still have your old job. I personally would have thought it was ok to give notice once you received your contract (why send it before all the checks are done), especially if that is what they told you AND you had no reason to think you would fail any checks.0 -
Based on the OP, I'm presuming your vetting/clearance would be higher than CTC...
Remember, it's not all about you - it's about your family and people you know, too - you could be squeaky clean, but a friend of a friend might not be, and it may give them cause for concern.
Having said that - you should be able to appeal, at the very least you should be able to make a Subject Access Request to find out why you've failed.0 -
For SC clearance there is a credit check on both you, your spouse and possibly your parents (can't quite remember), as well as those immediate family members criminal backgrounds being checked.
It doesn't matter if the job is not related to finance, the check is done to assess your risk of selling info i.e. if you were in financial difficulty, you may be more likely to be blackmailed for govt data.
I know of staff being dismissed when they failed the re-check 10 years later, because of financial issues.
I'm not sure about MoD but for the Home Office, they do not allow contractors to appeal - the decision to refuse clearance is final.I am Doll Parts

The latest update
My old employer has agree to let me stay on, partly out of convenience of not having to re-recruit for my role, and partly out of sympathy I suspect.
No response from the new company despite emailing, so I called them. Spoke to the lady who had been doing all my referencing checks etc, and she said she wasn't told the reason but she would chase it up for me. It's really bizarre. If it was a credit check, then why not just tell me I've failed a credit check. IF that's their requirement, I would hold my hands up and say fair enough. At this stage though, I haven't completed the forms for the SC. All I believe they have done is the DPSS which checks my work history and addresses, for which any problems I would expect them to ring me. It really doesn't make sense.0 -

Just to add to that, it's a permanent role not contract. No one in my family has a criminal record, nor do any of my friends.0
