Ebay- I state cash on collection but people keep paying by paypal

So what your saying is that just because your honest - we should all open ourselves to being scammed and embrace it - and when we get robbed say it was only fair - because that lovely appleblossom pays a lot in Ebay fees.
Thats like telling a pensioner its OK to wander round Brixton at night alone with a wad of money in their hands - because your sons a nice lad.
That's not what I'm saying no. (and for the record yes my son is a nice lad but he's 9years old and doesn't visit Brixton!). My point is is that whenever pp and collection come onto the same thread not just this one everyone jumps in and says no don't do it, you'll get scammed, refund them and relist the item or tell them to pay cash etc - all I am saying is that NOT everyone is dishonest and it seems that the assumption is that they buyer will always scam the seller if they pay by paypal - the fact that I pay fees doesn't make it acceptable to scam no, my point there was that if you use ebay, you pay the fees end of - I pay them if I'm selling something and therefore accept that sellers have to pay them and don't feel guilty about a buyer paying them.
On the other side of this, I once bought an item and it turned out the seller lived on the same street as me. I contacted her an said I'd pop round and collect it and give her the cash but she insisted on me paying by paypal, charged me delivery and hand delivered it herself about 10 minutes later!! I suppose on hindsight I could have claimed non receipt - after all I'd even paid postage for it but it didn't enter my head - yes I was peeved that I'd paid for her to walk 2 minutes down the road and couldn't even pass the cost as packing as she just handed it to me as it was.
Its a bit like having a crap meal at a restaurant and telling everyone not to go there ever again or take your own food if you do - just because it happens to one doesn't always mean it happens to everyone.0 -
By accepting Paypal on collection you are giving up your seller protection.
Would you send a £500 item by standard post, it is not going to get lost or damaged is it, or would you send it insured and tracked thereby retaining protection ?
There is a high probability that everything will go OK in both scenarios but you can insure against it possibly going wrong.0 -

I don't think anyone is disputing the issue of the cash on collection scam- but it is quite right that not all buyers paying paypal are scammers. I have allowed collection on paypal items, but it was business decision and I believed the buyers had good reason. However my comfort level is such that for items I would not allow to be collected I simply don't list them on ebay.
The fact remains though that for clarity and accuracy we need newbies to be aware both of the paypal on collection scam, but also of the ebay requirement that paypal must be accepted.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Could you not write something along the lines of:
"Cash on collection.
If you wish to pay via Paypal, then you also need to select the courier option, as Paypal rules require a tracking number"
Then put a courier option for £50 or whatever is reasonable.
Are the items too big to be taken by courier?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I have done that before- but the wording needs to be 'careful'.
The disadvantages are that a high courier price pushes the item way down the Best Match, it doesn't show as a local pick up as the courier charge trumps the collection, and lastly, if someone pays the courier charge then you have an item you didn't want to post and if they pay too much they can trash your stars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I tend to find that a large and slightly distasteful image such as the one above tends to get the message through. Just copy and paste it into the listing text as long as you're using the advanced listing form.0 -

But you do make it sound like Ebay and Paypal will call round your house and beat you with a big stick.
I'll be back in a minute - someones banging on the door :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I don't know why you think that, but they most certainly do! Here's the form that you use to request a seller's contact details:Ebay do not give out addresses for private sellers without a court order or solicitors letter.

And eBay regard incorrect or missing contact information very seriously.
You've obviously been lucky. And while there isn't a specific Star for not allowing PayPal, I suspect that most unhappy buyers just give 1 Star in all categories.I have refused paypal for collecions for 15 years. Never had a strike - never had a neg - and which star is there specifically for not allowing paypal?Philip0 -
The only other thing you could do is to send the buyer a receipt with a tracking number.
Then if they are dishonest enough to claim non-receipt, you can show a delivery to their address.
Still costs you the paypal fees, and a bit of postage though.0 -

Try the contact form then - and see how far you get - they will give you their TELEPHONE NUMBER.
And if someone leaves you a low star in ALL categories - then Ebay will remove them - as they are clearly malicious - especially if no sale took place. Think about it - not as described - how would they know??? Postage charges - it wasn't posted0
