A few years ago M&S did school shoes up to a size 9 I think (I know as I bought some - VAT free!).

I know you're in Dorset, but if you are ever near Colchester or Norwich there's an independent shoe shop called Stompers (in Colchester it's in the department store on the High Street). Yes, I used to work for them, so I'm biased, but we found we were having to stock bigger sizes every single year. When I last worked there (2008) they went up to an adult size 12 :O They aren't cheap, I'm afraid (VAT kicks in at size 40 [6.5] for boys and 39 [6] for girls) but they are good quality! I still get shoes from there now (their Ricosta walking boots are BRILL!). I know it's so hard when especially the girls get larger feet and are really restricted by choice :( Nightmare!

Also, re. the polish thing - wax-based polish is better than cream-based as it treats the leather.
I'm wracking my brains to think of other makes which go into big sizes... Ricosta are great, so if you can find a stockist near you, they're definitely worth a look. Ecco do a children's range, too... Rhino by Start-Rite might stop at a 9 (but not sure). If I think of any, I'll post again! Good luck! :)

My dd is in her first year at school and on her third pair of shoes .... Hush puppies , geox and now clarks patent ones.... The geox were from amazon.... And seem to hav been most foot friendly ...her current clarks make her feet sweat a bit.. Damp toes! Going to try geox next sept again and will keep an eye out for a bargain ! Clarks online sale was good I ordered online and then had them checked In store for size.

Sadly school shoes are another of the 'normal' stuff I don't get to do, my daughter has to wear Piedro orthotic boots prescribed by the hospital. On the plus side they are very hard wearing and polish up a dream!!
  • Brantano always, great shoes and great staff. Never buy supermarket or cheap shoes as I want my sons feet to be properly measured and fitted.
  • In terms of brands I generally buy clarks shoes because my kids have H width fitting but they are so expensive I always buy them from Brantanos and wait for their 40% off deals that they do at least twice a year now
A big thank you to all comping posters!! :T

Kickers are good, I have 3 daughters, ages 8,7 and 6 and one pair of those will normally see through all three of them without looking worn out. I like also to buy patent, as long as its actual leather it seems to last better and I mainly also go for Clarks, start rite or hush puppies.

My eldest has worn through 2 x pairs of Asda boots this winter that granny paid for, so for her third pair I've gone for 'Gabor' ones in the sale from amazon, will see how long they last!

I bought my daughter kickers, now I buy them for my grandson.
They are the best shoes for kids.
  • I buy them from a shoe shop
