Madeira for a week - spending money

Hey,

I just wondered how much money I would need for a week in Madeira. Booked four tours, that need to be paid worth £125. Otherwise how much do things cost over there?

Thanks for all the advice.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Theres some things that I would take into account when thinking what I need money wise
-What board basis are you on
-travel - are you on coach or plane (thinking coach - additional refreshment stops)
-drink - (not personal) you may want a few drinks in evening
-gifts / souveniers - do you want to bring any back.

I don't normally do city / europe breaks, but when I went to Prague (2011) I took £400 for 4 nights I was on B+B - £150 of that was for trips, I estimated £50 a day xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

    Where are you staying?

If you're tempted to drive, I would knock the tours on the head and hire a car instead. It's a lovely place to drive around.

I took £350 when i went. I ate out every night, including drinks. How much you spend depends on where you're eating, prices vary quite a lot. I didn't buy any souvenirs. Did buy the shopping one day which was about £50 euros (stayed at my brothers, he wouldn't let me pay for anything else !)

    Had some fabulous meals !

    Thanks for your reply.

We get bed and breakfast. Travelling by plane. Don't drink alcohol very often. Will be buying souvenirs for 4 people and myself though.

That's reasonably central in Funchal so you can probably save on public transport or taxis. Meals are generally on a par with the UK though, possibly cheaper.

Every trip I've seen advertised is easy to do yourself. Give it a go! It's not big enough to get properly lost and you can always use Satnav as a fall out. I'd recommend the Sunflower Landscapes of Madeira book. The car tours and walks give a marvellous sense of the island.

I'd aim for around £500 for the week, (plus trip money), if its on par with the Uk meal wise - then eating out and about - also tourist trap as I call it, can be ups and downs, xx

When I go to Tunisia theres 2 cafe/restaurants that go to for lunch (although AI) if were out and about - the one cafe (cheaper out of the tourist centre - for 2 of us, £8 yet the posh one £25 for the same - this is slap bang in tourist market zone xx

If you are reasonably fit, look at doing at least one Levada walk, remember it will be always down hill. But its one of those things that an escorted guide is the correct way.It could still be wet and cold to start with , even in the summer, so take advice on what to wear. Buses are good and I for one would not hire a car.
